Is the Russian Media calling Povetkin Heavyweight Champ of the World? Or are they treating it the same as us in the West?
This is obvious trolling but actually Russian media believe or better to say propagand that Valuev was robbed in both loses.
Well forgive me if i'm wrong, but I feel I can speak on behalf of the russian population. They still claim their champion as being evander holyfield which is why a big real deal is made of him.
The russian press felt strongly that holyfield deserved the victory and much like rocky v drago they were screaming for the american by the end. There was extensive coverage in the motherland of holyfield's championship defence against botha and williams.
So much rubbish in this thread you have to disinfect it with alcohol! I just did a quick check - generally speaking boxing publications and specialist sports newspapers make the distinction and call Povetkin a 'regular' champion, whereas mainstream publications don't and just refer to him as 'champion'.
Wrong! Holyfield actually broke a record of never getting punched in that 12 round fight! They even brought out "vanda vodka" to replace the traditional championship belt. Putin himself said "the days of belts are over, only the true champion can drink vanda's vodka!" this is the real deal!
I held back from this, I didn't want to break your heart. Did you ever wonder why valuev looked great up until he fought larry donald? The truth is kimbo slice used to wear a body suit and fight under the name valuev. Then when he gained recognition under his own face they brought an imposter in who lost to donald, ruiz, chag, haye and holyfield getting a lucky escape again mccline. I'm sorry about doing this to you, but it's true.
I don't see how he could be viewed as a champ since the last two wba guys lost to the same man who hasn't lost since. It probably catapults him to 3rd best in the division however.
