Question for you ESB posters with fight/training experience???

    from what i have heard jermaine taylor is not a big boxing fan and doesnt really follow it and b4 the pavlik fight, it was the thing that people pointed at, as his lack of motivation and looking at the sport as purely business and to make his fortune. bigger fool him, he now needs this sport to salvage his retirement and legacy.

    Man, I'm a fan of Jermain Taylor, so I'm not going to point out specifics.:lol: But if HBO/boxing archives their interviews, the one of Ozell Nelson talking about JT and his knowledge before the Pavlik II fight, well is quite embarassing as a fan of his.:rofl

    OK, I can't help myself, (not so much boxing on this one but you'll get the point!).
    Ozell was gonna take JT to St. Louis for a tournament, and JT said "St. Louis ain't in Arkansas??"!!! LOL. Be worth a laugh to look it up on there.

    The way I look at it is that you truly wont become great at your sport unless you are a student of the sport.

    Naturally talent can only take you but so far. It's probably not a bad idea to check out footage of old fights b/c the fact is that there are but so many styles out there. No matter how good someone is, there is a fighter in the past who may resemble that fighter. A fighter, better yet AN ATHLETE, should be willing to study his craft to become the best he can be in his sport of choice.

    name a great fighter who is a self proclaimed NON-STUDENT of the sport.

    Oh yeah, i noticed this a lot at my gym. Im pretty sure Im the only person there that actually follows boxing. Everyone else knows Floyd, Tyson, De la Hoya, and Ali and thats where it ends. There was this regular who went there who was reading an old newspaper clipping with me and it was about Jack Johnson. I asked him if he liked Jack and he told me yeah Ive been following his fights since i was just a kid hes real good man real good.:patsch

    Because most of the guys in the sport today were not born and raised to be fighters. It also tells you why this era on a whole is weaker than yesteryear. You can be good, maybe even somewhat great just being in it for the money, but you'll never be a legend.
