at best it was no one's fault as neither put serious effort towards making it happen. at worst it was Cotto's fault for not trying to fight the best available

It seems like you feel that Mayweather should only fight people who he is obligated to fight....in that case he should ****in fight nobody.

Let me ask you this: Does Cotto have a history of ducking people? Can you name me the list of fighters Cotto is acused of avoiding?
And please tell me the reason Floyd, if he had no problem with the Cotto fight (at 147, when Cotto was fully developed and at a comfortable weight) responded with this "Im not gonna let boxing retire me, im gonna retire from boxing" nonsense? Why did he say that?

So wait a minute, if we are talking age here, then let's see:

Pac (allegedly) wants to fight Mayweather now, who just turned 35. So are you suggesting that Pac is trying to fight a past prime fighter, because his age is 35?

It's not about the number age, but the ring age, and Cotto was an old 29. Clottey lost every big fight he was in, and Hatton had already been brutally KO'ed by Floyd and looked like **** against Juan Lazcano. He was not PRIME when he fought Pac, end of ****ing story.

List of fighters Cotto "ducked" (guys who called him out or were prime when he was active)

    Williams
    Cintron
    Tszyu
    Floyd
    Sergio martinez
    Hatton (at 140 or 147)
    Vivian Harris

And also, Floyd wanted to take a break, so what? I mean really, Cotto had not done ANYTHING by that point that any reasonable person thinks would have scared another fighter, especially one who was considered the best in the sport. You think Floyd saw what he did against Alfonso Gomez, and got scared???:rofl:rofl:rofl

Again, you are accusing Floyd of ducking a fighter who NEVER tried to pursue a fight with him. :deal

    Pacquiao immediately comes to mind.

Other than Arturo Gatti, everyone @ 140lbs ducked Floyd when he has fighting there.

Fighting Oscar was his ultimate goal back then for unknown reasons. You can even hear Larry commentating about how Mayweather was talking about fighting DLH during Floyd's 130 and 135 fights. I think he felt too much satisfaction from accomplishing the DLH goal to have more than one more fight.

Then he mismanaged his money, realized there's still AZZes out there to kick, and felt bored yet still capable that made him come back to the game.

Better late than never that Cotto(e) steps up to the plate.

Anyways, I'm not a mind reader.

Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton both ducked Floyd at 140. Floyd wanted the Cotto fight as his debut at 140. It was declined. Then they considered making the fight when he fought Cotto's stable mate Brussles. Team Cotto were sitting ring side, after the fight Arum stated Cotto was too green.

Hatton was a much more shameful duck. Hatton coming off his Kosta win was wined and dined by HBO execs and sat ringside with them for PBF - Gatti. Hatton was going to fight the winner. Hatton was so hoping to fight Gatti, He had stated that he would love to fight Gatti next if he beat Floyd. So Hatton gets a up close look at Floyd giving Gatti a beating(RIP) and decides to fight Carlos Maussa next. Carlos fought on the undercard and upset Vivan Harris. HBO had a PPV date in November of that year all set for Hatton and Floyd. Hatton declined...That Gatti beating showed him something.

Underdog situation . Floyd's opposition always have nothing to lose, everything to gain. If Floyd loses he becomes Roy Jones. It's the main reason I admire Floyd the most. He has the most to lose and he still with icewater in his veins never folds under pressure no matter the stage or adversity. Floyd's also held on a different pedistool than anyone else in the game also. I truly believe Manny is just in his position because the emotional queers of this generation hate Floyd. But Manny is getting exposed daily as a hype job. Bradley is a challenge for Manny but would be no threat for Floyd . But also to answer the TS question these fighters aren't scared of Floyd because they are just as emotionally compromised as alot of you Joe Smo haters. They hate him and this type of ***** **** puts Floyd in more control. It wont be no different with Manny . He's not ready for Floyd's stage .

Simple question, If mayweather was willing to face Cotto, and didnt avoid him, why did he say these things? Cotto clearly stated on numerous occasions that he wanted a fight with Floyd. Floyd has stated on numerous occasions that he didnt want to fight Cotto.

As for that crap list of fighters you claim Cotto ducked because they called him out, how about now making a list of those who called Floyd out and Floyd didnt fight them. Based off YOUR criteria, Floyd ducked

    Pacquiao
    Cotto
    Margarito
    Guerrero
    Paul Spadafora
    Paul Williams
    Sergio Martinez

I actually agree with you here, I think he felt that beating Delahoya was all he needed to do, and has been selectively choosing fights that best suit him

What plate was there to step up to if Mayweather didnt make any moves to fight him, and instead went the opposite way?

Fair play here man, but you gotta admit its a stupid ass thing to say, and it clearly doesnt portray him as a man who was willing to fight Cotto back when he said that

that was exactly my point. it was all about ring age plus their style of fighting. and cotto at age 29 only has about 9 years of ring age as a pro when pac fought him right at his prime age. he has taken some beatings from amrgo so i am accounting that he is slightly past it but still near his peak.

how did you came into conclusion that cotto who just turned 29 back then (9 years of ring age) is an old 29? so that means that cotto would be a very old 31 when floyd fights him?

and floyd's style is suited for longevity. he took a couple of long vacations to preserve his body and he himself admitted it. pacquiao is way older than floyd in terms of ring age and wars. :deal

lol pacquiao fought hatton just a little more than a year after floyd fought him and hatton has gone from being prime aginst floyd at 147 with floyd and not prime against pac at 140 where it was hatton's best weight.
