You can but he's been the main guy to restart this catchweight revolution we're having now.

I'd gladly go back to 15 rounders and the original weight 8 classes (*although I'd find 9 weight classes acceptable as well).

But in terms of catch weights and finding ways to get leverage and advantages over a would-be opponent, this is all part of the modern boxing business model. It's part of the game.

I wasn't talking about Mayweather, he didn't even have that many CW fights, I was talking about Pacquiao. However, it seems that their opponents who have been bit by catchweights also resorted to them so it just shows the negative effect it's having.

I'd rather boxing orgs stepped up and said that's it, no more CW title fights and that should sort the problem out much more certainly.

Probably no chance in that though.

The sanctioning alphabet organizations rarely take any action that goes against what they each perceive as its own best interests.

Yes. Canelo basically says as much:
"There was a time when I had to give things up in order to have these big fights. I'm now at a point where I don't need to give these advantages anymore."

What stops them from preventing these kind of agreements being made for their title fights in the first place? They don't care because it works out for them whilst still appearing legit by not "recognizing" it.

But there were two WBC titles on the line in that one. The 175 and 168 versions of the WBC belts were both on the line, and the fight was contested at 168.

When did this "modern boxing business model” of catchweights start?
