I don't get in with gossip.

I don't talk about this type of ****. I've engaged in it before, but it amounts to nothing but trash talk and the defemation of someone's character, when especially in this case, I have no idea what's going on behind closed doors.

I don't care what goes on behind closed doors. I mind my own business.

All I know, is this fight would possibly the most lucrative fight in history, and Arum is not trying to miss out on that. Pac isn't his only fighter, and even if he was, if what Arum said was true about Pac thinking Mayweather is an easy fight, why would he not put Pac in with Mayweather?

What would stop him? Arum is an old man. He's not protecting Pac. There is no reason for him to do so.

Man...I don't even want to get engaged with this type of ****. This is all gossip.

    That's all it is.

    Gossip.

Arum has openly admitted to lying in the past, you do know this, right?

And did you not read my link?

That's because he's paying someone else to do it for him.

And as far as his fights are concerned...

If not Mayweather, why is Bradley not the next best thing?

I mean, don't get me wrong...I'm mad that Pac may not fight Mayweather too, but if Mayweather is showing no interest, and Arum is lining up another fight for Pac...

We can only speculate who is at fault...

    And that's gossip.

If Pac REALLY wants the fight, he should be able to tell Arum to make the fight.

Or any fight he wants for that matter. Why should a boxer of Pac's stature have his opponents dictated to him? It doesnt even make any sense.

It's not like he's some prospect.

No, I did not read your link because it doesn't open on my system.

But what value would I receive from reading yet another opinion page?

I don't see how that would solve anything. It would just surround me with more gossip and put me in a circulating argument where nobody really knows what the hell they're talking about...

They just want their voice to be heard.

But let me tell ya'll something...I haven't heard one damn thing on ESB that was worth **** when it revolved around gossip.

I've seen some things in the training forum, I've seen some good breakdown's of fights, and I've even seen some interesting scientific articles in the lounge...

...but as far as any gossip related post...it's just someone that thinks they got something important to say, but they really ain't saying ****.

That's fine and dandy, but there are public quotes from Arum about never putting Pacquiao in with a Golden Boy fighter, Marquez needing to prove himself at welterweight, and Shane not making a good opponent for Pacquiao. These aren't secondhand quotes; these are things he said on the record to journalists and in the case of the last two immediately contradicted through his own actions. Even if you want to avoid speculation on backroom deals, the things Arum has said on the public record have a status somewhat higher than mere secondhand gossip.

As you recognize at the end of your post all of this qualifies as gossip by your own definition as well. How do you really know Arum isn't trying to miss out on the fight? How do you really know Arum isn't protecting Pacquiao?

But what good will it do Pac to say he wants the fight when you got Mayweather saying he doesn't need Pac?

Obviously it's not all Pac has to do...

So why even waste our time by pretending that these two are going to eventually fight eachother, when in reality, it's just engaging us in another soap opera...

If people would stop speculating about what goes on beyond closed doors and engaging in gossip by formulating theories based on an opinion usually formed in bias...maybe you could see **** as it is.

    But even then...does it matter?

If the fight happens, it happens...

    It probably won't.

    lou dibella
    don king
    gary shaw

any of these people could do arums job so whats the difference... pacquiao & floyd are the only 2 people that can do what they can do so why not see this fight happen with out arum? it's kind of like the NBA & NFL lock outs

arum is a whiney owner and floyd is the player.... pacquiao is just caught in the middle

This isnt gossip, it's a published article by Lem Satterfield, and contains direct quotes by Arum, who was interviewed for this article.

Arum: "Pacquiao Will Never Face a Golden Boy Fighter!"
    By Lem Satterfield

LAS VEGAS — Eight-division titlist, Manny Pacquiao, will never enter the ring opposite a fighter promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, said Top Rank Promotions CEO, Bob Arum, the promoter of the WBO welterweight champion.

At issue, said Arum, is the ongoing lawsuit filed by Pacquiao in December of 2009 that seeks compensatory and punitive damages for defamation of character and which names CEO Richard Schaefer and President Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, as well as Floyd Mayweather. Jr., the fighter’s uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather, and Floyd Mayweather Sr.

“We filed a defamation of character lawsuit in the federal court in Las Vegas, Nevada, against the Mayweathers, Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer based on their false and defamatory statements about Manny Pacquiao — specifically their publicly stating that Pacquiao was taking steroids or other illegal drugs to enhance his performance — knowing that there is absolutely no basis for any such assertions,” said Pacquiao’s attorney, Dan Petrocelli, at the time of the filing.

“We may be naming others as well, and may be adding others who have made comments since the lawsuit was filed. These guys have no right saying what they’re saying. It’s knowingly false, highly injurious,” said Petrocelli. “Manny has an absolutely unblemished reputation, and accomplished extraordinary achievements through hard work and preparation. He can’t sit by and allow people to accuse him of cheating because they can’t beat him in the ring.”

At the time of the suit, Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts) and Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) — whose past four bouts have been promoted by Golden Boy Promotions — were tentatively slated for March 13 fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

But Arum said that the “filing of the lawsuit effectively terminates everything.”

On Thursday, in the press room at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Arum said that Pacquiao would not face a Golden Boy Promotions fighter, adding that he believed that Mayweather had severed ties with the company.

Arum is in town promoting Saturday night’s defense by Pacquiao of his WBO belt against Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) at the MGM.

“Manny Pacquiao will never fight a Golden Boy fighter. Why will we not put Manny Pacquiao in with a Golden Boy fighter? Because they defamed him. They defamed a guy whose apiration is to be president of his country and a world leader,” said Arum.

“They said that he cheated and that he took performance enhancing drugs with no basis at all. None at all” said Arum. “And they were the ones who started the whole thing. So, if you’re Manny Pacquiao, do you want them to be involved with your promotion after they did a horrendous thing like that?”

Asked if he knew what Mayweather’s current status with Golden Boy Promotions is, Arum said, “Floyd is no longer associated with Golden Boy. End of story,” adding, “I don’t know anything unequivocally, but I believe that to be the case.”

The only way to salvage any potential relationship between Top Rank and Golden Promotions is for Golden Boy to issue a public apology, said Arum.

“Can they cure it? I suppose. I mean, they should get together and call a press conference and say, ‘What we did was vicious and was uncalled for, and we apologize, this is not like us. Floyd Mayweather can do what he wants,” said Arum. “There are ways to cure anything, but they haven’t made an effort. Not one effort to cure it. The only effort that they made was to try to dismiss the case on legal grounds and the judge told them to take a hike.”

well if the *****s would stop and think for a while, they would notice that apart from arum, floyd is the bigger problem why this fight can't get made. adding an addtional test while accusing your opponent of PEDs use, taking on vacations, refusing to take part on negotiations.

He has a contract with him?
Why would he cut him loose so his main competitor Golden Boy make money off him?

Ludicrous. Floyd is not some god (except to *****s), that everyone has to drop or sacrifice everything to please. Hell he hasn't even been doing boxing full-time the past few years.

Why doesn't Floyd forget Golden Boy, since he says he's his own man?
Or even if Golden Boy represents him, they can do a co-promotion with Top Rank, it shouldn't be any problem.

is it not time that the next time there is a press conference and an open mic for questions someone says '' to be honest manny and bob we really dont give a **** about manny fighting marquez, bradley or whoever, all we want to see is manny vs floyd'' ''its time you gave us fans the fight we want cos we are getting sick of all of the bull****''

i cant do this as im from the UK and was hoping that the tour would come to london but it didnt!

i think a question like that would be better than the usual arse licking comments/questions that are asked

Pac said he doesnt need Mayweather either.

It's not about NEED, it's about WANT!!

I believe Pac wants the fight, because the money is too much to walk away from. I believe Floyd wants it for the same reason.

But Arum dislikes Al Haymon, GBP, and especially Floyd, and has a proven track record of not putting Pac in with anyone who is considered a risk NOT promoted by Top Rank.
