Do you think Cotto was being tentative in the fight with Foreman(as a result of the Margarito/Pacquiao beatings) or do you think he was simply being patient and fighting smarter because Steward was in his corner?
I didn't see it as tentative. I thought he fought smart against a taller, mobile opponent. Was stalking him and when Foreman gave him the opportunity to trade, he did.
I thought Cotto looked like Cotto, and that was my first time seeing Yuri fight, and I must say, he looked mighty spooked.
That was my opinion as well. I heard Teddy Atlas say he was tentative on the Friday Night Fights, perhaps he was talking about specific exchanges he was thinking about or not attacking openings in certain spots. I just thought he fought pretty patiently.
Tentative in comparison perhaps, but he is at a new weight and stylistically couldn't plant himself to land bigger shots against a mobile Foreman. I say a bit tentative, but more smart. He still threw authoritative combinations.
It was a measured and patient performance rather than a tentative one. I think Cotto is mentally and physically damaged from the Marg/Pac beatdowns, but the Foreman fight wasn't one where we saw the effects of it. It's only when he's in a rough fight where he gets tagged with a few big shots where we'll see him lose his nerve a bit IMO.
Listen to his post fight interview. Cotto kept repeating he followed Steward's game plan over and over. Did anyone else notice the Klitchko like feel of the fight?
Exactly, and also he was up against a guy who was much quicker on his feet and never stood still for a second, at least until he injured his knee. Do people know how hard it is to find punching opportunities against a guy like that? Cotto is an agressive fighter by nature, but he never just throws shots blindly, only when he feels sure he's gonna hit something. And didn't he open up as soon as Foreman lost his mobility?
