Excuse me for asking a silly question, I am new to this site and my knowledge of boxing isn't the greatest, but how does this Super 6 work, each boxer having to face the other 5??? and I take it the Super 6 will have three fights per meeting and then move to a different venue etc??? As I've said, please excuse me if I have just asked a very silly question! Cheers
Theres 2 leagues of 3 fighters each who fight round robins where points are awarded for a win and extra points for a stoppage. The top 2 fighters in each league go through to the semi finals where the winner of each league fights the runner up of the other league in a knockout format. The winners of those 2 fights meet in the final.
Cheers for that, makes perfect sense now, are they 3 rounders like Prizefighter or full 12 rounders? Does this Super 6 all happen on one night go on the road? and would I be right in thinking that Carl's belt would be up for grabs from his first fight???? and then whoever is champion during the entire event???
They're all full length fights, there are couple of fights that are on the same night but most are spread out on different nights and promotions over the next 18 months/ 2 years. World titles like Frochs and Kesslers are on the line throughout the tournament and at the end there SHOULD be an undisputed champion but boxing has a way of ****ing these things up.....
They are full 12 round fights and, obviously, there will be breaks of around 3 months between fights as per usual (barring injuries). The Super 6 is going to happen all over the world- first round examples: Froch-Dirrell, UK; Abraham-Taylor, Germany; Kessler-Ward, USA. As for titles, the WBC has said they will support the tourney as Dirrell and Ward would be mandatories anyway (they will also get nice big sanctioning fees as well). Kessler's WBA title is also at stake as he has just fought his mandatory, Perdoma. In the second fight of the Super 6, Kessler will fight Froch and the winner will become the WBA Super Champ so they will never have to face a mandatory again. In short, the WBC and WBA titles will remain on the line throughout the entire tournney. Kessler is currently ranked 1 by the Ring and Froch is ranked 3 so, at present, when they fight it won't be for the lineal championship unless the Ring rule that, because both are in the tourney, it is a special case scenario where the title can be fought between 1st and 3rd ranked fighters. :good EDIT: Gaz has replied already.
atsch yeah, sorry. I don't know where I got that from. Its 1 league and the top 4 go though to the semis where 1 fights 4 and 2 fights 3. Isn't it? Sorry 'bout that...I think I'll go for a lie down.atsch
I believe so! The rest was right, extra points for a stoppage, top four qualify for semi finals. I believe there are tie break procedures to cover all eventualities if two boxers have the same number of points. I'm not sure these have been released in specifics though.
I've read the "tie break" rules somewhere. One is that if the 2 fighters have fought whoever won will go through (makes sense).
There is also a scoring system which helps decide things if the fights are tightlyu contested. The scoring system will work as follows: 2 points for a win 1 point for a draw 0 points for a loss +1 bonus point for a TKO or KO This is good as if you don't get a win in your first bout you can still win by getting a KO in a latter bout. This will help keep things interesting.
