Okay, no laughing at my question. Does a fighter have to increase in weight to fight at the next weight up? You know, say a MW wanted to fight the SMW champ, but was so comfortable at the weight he wanted to come in at 160, would he be allowed?
I was thinking that but wasn't sure. Makes you wonder why some fighters come in a little heavy around the waist when moving up. Should maybe stay closer to their weight and use their movement etc.
I think weighing in well under the limit is a very good idea, and I don't know why its not done more often. If you are planning on moving up and trying to outmuscle guys you have lost your mind. There is a lot of bull**** regarding weight in the modern day.
They used to have them and stopped because fighters were dropping weight and not having time to re-hydrate. There were quite a few tragedies attibuted to this in the 80s-90s. I suppose the way tey do it now at least they have time to re-hydrate and its the same for both fighters, some of the actual weights that fighters enter the rings these days are amazing though!!
I think weight making is a horrendous part of boxing some fighters look seriously ill going into the ring.
as most have stated your can be under the weight limit. but i heard you can be find or investigated becuase the organisations title is being misrepresented. at the heavy/cruiser border is alot of weired things an go on. darnell wilson was gettng bigger purses on undercards for being 1 POUND over his cruiser limit to be classified as a heavy because it payed more....also some heavy's now overdose the heavyweigth limit and go to 240 odd pounds to be bigger. as my right honerable gentleman jeff thomas said that norris and hopkins come under the wieght pretty deep under the division limit.usually it's becuase they never blew up they were fit and lean throughout the year so making wieght you usaully over shoot the limit...why not. hopkinds might figth at light heavy but he still skinny in my opinion in person.but it clearly depends on the person. clottey could fight at light heavy if he wanted....dunno why tho
How much do fighters generally put on anyway? I know that guys like DLH and Hatton add about 12lb, Pacquiao & Williams 16lb - what about everyone else
I think when a fighter is very comfortable at a weight but gets an opportunity at the weight above he should just do what he usually does and weight in his usual weight, unless it totally ****s up your style.
