Mundine is the answer. It was a defence for Tony, and lasted all of a minute and a half ....can you recall the opponent (hint: it was held in Auckland NZ - not that well known and wasn't Kahu Mahanga).
What an incredible period for the Oz boxing scene... The sport needs a T.V ringside styled show to promote itself again.
CHB... speaking of the great Ted 'kid' Lewis... one of Oz's finest Empire Champs had a well travelled father, who faught Lewis a couple of times.... Any idea who these men might be????? Both, father and sons names..
It sure does - unfortunately Case & Merv Williams aren't around any more - but there's people who could pull it off. Fred E was correct - didn't manage to stay upright for long! I reckon you are correct with Flash Malcolm v Baby Cassius at Griffith (the drug capital of Australia at the time - watch out for Underbelly II on the 9th of Feb).
Flamengo and Couldhave, Spot on boys. Still is the drug capital mate, just they dont get caught as much these days. As the local story went, Baby Cass rocked up without boots so the Flash lent him an old pair and they locked horns for the title, Cass was paid the equiv' of about $25,000 for the fight and walked right around the yoogali club asking everyone "Do you want a tenner or twenty mate?" the promoter ended up paying for his fare home.
Not just a brain teaser - this one's a brain buster. I gotta think George Barnes is caught up in his one??
Eric Barnes was George's father, but he fought under the name Frank Burns (that's why it was so hard to find - mungrel!) Apparently, they are thought to be the first father/son combination anywhere to have won national titles.
