Didnt Pete Mitrevski hold it for a while in the late 80's? Paul was still fighting up until 86 or so..probably was still holding then. Sting was the first person to actually make a defence of the title in while, im pretty sure of that.
Did a search: 1/ Ferreri beat Alan Pressnell for it - Oct 1969 (after Rose vacated it). 2/ In Aug 1975 Brian Roberts fought Jim West for the title (Ferreri didn't lose it in the ring or vacate it - but must have been stripped of it). 3/ Ferreri won it back from Brian Roberts - March 1976. 4/ Peter Metrevski fought Charlie Brown for it - July 1988 (Ferreri was the last holder but had his last fight in Sept 1986). All up I guess Ferreri held the Aust bantamweight title for about 16 years, plus assorted other titles.
well done CHB.... 16 years is the claim often heard. Since hadn't actually lost the title, many claim he deserved the honours.
The name of which referee became synonymus with dodgy decisions at the turn of last century???? An American judge, being the first clue.
No No.... the turn of last century guys.... The referee gave the decisions..... Another clue... the main reason for this, is due to the backlash of one of decisions, which involved 'the little drunk'....
10 points mate... Maxie was a close friend of Jack McAullife. The decision against 'Griffo' was said to be appauling. Henceforth, any dodgy decision was termed "a real Maxie Moore".
Ippy... love the response... I've always had some distaste for Steele... seems to make some odd calls... especially whilst taking points off Tszyu.. Not sure who refereed the Leonardo Mas bout.. Need to watch it again... Not totally sure of the reasons behind the stopage.. Tszyu landed a late punch....
