Wow... come back tomorrow and play for the AM wireless???

An Australian Champ, '70's again, simutaneously holding two national titles, was subjected to his first knock down via the fists of a British man, whilst battling for the Empire title.... This Aussie would lose the fight in 5 rounds.

    Who is he???

Jeff was a favourite until he beat Lionel (hey, I was only a kid at the time).

A guy I know worked with Jeff as a bouncer after he retired from the ring, said Jeff was still very 'proficient' years afterwards.

Will have to come up with a question now. Hmmm??

    QUESTION
Northern Queensland born 70s/80s fighter who fought most of his early matches in Sydney. Later fought predominantly in his home state.
Won Australian titles at both welterweight & light middleweight.
Went out winning his final few matches (a rarity as most go out losing!)

CHB... Neil Pattel would be the answer?? Interesting form... he took the LM/W title, before reducing to W/W.... also taking a points victory over future triple champ, Wally Carr for the LM/W title.

This one will send me to the cleaners....

Who claimed the M/W title for the first time.... in Australian history...??

1844 was the year. Tough question, as I have no idea who the oponent was... just the suggested champ claimant.

Got nothing..Went to the books for this one and I can not locate anything on the lineage of the title before the late 1800's.
The only name that popped up from around that time was William Sparkes...?

You may be close to taking home the showcase Rock!

See picture below of sterling silver bare knuckle boxing trophy engraved:

"Presented to W. Sparks / by the Gentlemen of Richmond / for his manly conduct / in the late fight / with Langham, / May 17th 1847"

Not sure what weight division Sparkes fought in, but he's from the right era...need to wait on judge & adjudicator Flamengo for the verdict Rock!

There is a Rocky Balboa in BoxRec Leon. Had just the one fight in 1981 for a first round KO loss to Bobby 'Bam' Hines....obviously couldn't respond to the 'come on Rocko, get up, get up!' coming from his corner.

Quick one whilst we await the verdict from flame.

    Who am I?

New Zealand fighter born in Samoa...Probably fought most of my career fights in Australia though, at least half of them. Represented New Zealand at the Commonwealth games held in a country in the British Isles, in boxing of course.
Holds a win over one of our greats but came up short twice against another one. Honoured for his service to kiwiland.

...was who I thought of also but not sure he fits.

    ....Manny fought pro 1965 -74.

....The Com Games were held in Edinburgh 1970 and 1986.....the Com Games just prior to Manny turning pro would have been 1962 held in Perth.
