Out of interest, was that just a random punt on boxrec or do you know anything about the guy? I have no clue who he is, Im not even going to pretend.
Sai you *******, my browser froze for a minute while I found the answer! I did the same, process of elimination thru boxrec, never heard of him.
Haha! Victory is mine. Stuff like this kind of shows how impressive boxrec is tbh. Have you read the thing about how it was set up on wikipedia: Foundation The site was founded by Londoner John Sheppard, a former computer systems analyst for the British National Coal Board. Sheppard never attended a boxing bout until 1995 when he attended a Prince Naseem Hamed fight with Hamed's older brothers Riath and Nabeel. Sheppard had considered boxing to be a "barbaric and degrading" spectacle, stating "I sat there watching people punch each other in the head, wondering why they were doing it.....I was sprayed with blood, getting more and more miserable."[2] Later, following Hamed's split with with Frank Warren, Sheppard went to work for Hamed at "Prince Promotions" in 2000. Sheppard then began to compile record of active British boxers in an attempt to aid matchmaking of boxers and then decided to create a website which would store the records of all boxers. The site has grown so much that Sheppard has gone fulltime since 2005. As of December 2008, on a typical day 50,000 visitors could view 700,000 pages with the record of 1,300,000 bouts in its database encompassing 17,000 active and 345,000 non-active fighters.
Thomas Hauser did a great write up on it, in fact I suspect thats been cribbed from it. Its a great site to wander through and I've spent way too many hours on it, one of the best things to ever happen to the sport imo. Edit: Here 'tis http://www.secondsout.com/columns/index.cfm?ccs=208&cs=26706
Never heard of him? Three fights and a "World Title" to tell your kids about? He still has not taken that belt off yet, I bet.
Pretty impressive isn't it? I was chatting to a mate who is just starting to get into the sport while we were watching JMM V Diaz about why the belts are often quite meaningless. We were tossing up the idea of making our own boxing commision and fighting each other for the belt. Whoever wins can then be super champion and the other champion. Should be good for picking up at least. I was thinking World Boxing Arrrrrthority or something and put a pirate on the front.
Like your thinking SAI - welcome aboard ya pirate. Reckon every household should be fully kitted out with boxershorts, silk dressing gowns and have a recognised champ and superchamp....just think - obesity would be a thing of the past! BoxRec may struggle to keep track of all the additional title fights though.
Surely there's a book in it for our pole vaulting friend: "How to Lose Your Way to a World Title" or perhaps: "Zero to World Champion in 10 rounds"
I was thinking about a World Boxing ****sall... A really enlightening name for all the junket tour administrators who spend lots of what fighters earn.
QUESTION Fought as a welterweight. Had 24 amateur fights (22 wins & 2 losses) over a 3 year career (don't look in BoxRec for this one). Crowned amateur welterweight champion of Hicksville, 1964. Quit boxing after having nose badly broken. Went on to something less dangerous and far more profitable.
