How would you feel if he never returned even when Welterweight sorted itself out and a designated "head honcho" was assigned?

Would you feel that for the sake of his legacy as a P4P all 'round fighter he should match up and risk losing his 0?

I personally think, in all honesty... his resume is superb... but it's lacking that certain something special. Not much, maybe even a top name welter from now or two.

Like for example, SRL Hagler, Duran, Hearns

PBF Corrales, ODLH, Hatton? or Gatti, ODLH, Hatton Or Judah, ODLH, Hatton?

You just can't really... match them. It's nothing against mayweather... he just needs like, that one OTHER name you know? The big one.

    Any opinions? :bbb

Thanks for asking a question in a well mannered way instead of bashing him. Honestly, I feel he's beat alot of good opposition and he doesn't need another big name on his resume. When the welterweight division sorts out and the number 1 welter is obvious, whoever that welter is, I honestly dont think would be able to beat Mayweather. Yes, whoever the welter is would look good on his resume. But do I feel he needs it, no. Because its not all about resumes. Its about how good you are in the ring.

In 10 years time, PBF will be looked on as highly as we look upon the likes of Hearns and Duran, if he remains retired and never fights again, he's solidified there.

Why? 5 weight divisions, champion at all 5, undefeated, beaten HOFers and potential ATGers and no one was left undefeated (Due to Cotto losing to Margo) except him.

Thats his legacy right there. Made lots of money, was the first to win 6 titles in 5 different weight classes, fought the best out there and never loss, and retired from the sport in his prime with no brain damage at all. Thats his legacy.

Hernandez, manfredy, vargaz,Castillo,Chavez,Corrales,Floys was so good at the lighter weights,an the fact that he moved up to welter is a feat in itself. He wouldnt have to come back in My opinion. The only time people are gonna be pleased is when he loses.Im not a big fan.But his accomplishments are undisputable

At the lighter weights Floyd was great, I really was about him. but I started losing respect for him when he ran his ass off in the last rounds of the Castillo fight. He did came back with a better game plan and showed that he could take care of what he did wrong in the first fight.

It's when he moved up to the Welters that he started selecting the easier opponents instead of confronting the real greats at that weight class. At that point it was all about the right business moves. He wasn't a fighter that would fight the best, just the best paying fights. he fought a Past Prime Oscar and was looking nice. Was victorious in the end, but looked like the loser this a busted eye and bloody nose. I really think he lacks the heart, or else we would of seen him fighting Cotto, who was considered the MAN in the welter division while Floyd was still around.

Retiring was a smart career move for Floyd. He's healthy and rich, not to
mention undefeated. I just wanted him to fight a prime welter, but that would of required heart.

Floyd... you played it smart, enjoy the rewards and fruits of your career.

Busted eye and nose? Never seen that. I got that fight saved on dvr at home, I'll check for those, but I'm pretty sure he didnt have a busted eye, and I doubt if his nose was bleeding. And even though Baldo wasnt that good, you gotta give him credit for beating the official champ at the divison, and he beat Judah. The guy beat Oscat at 154, thats a huge accomplishment to beat someone who's naturally bigger than you and good. At the time he beat Oscar, Oscar was better competition than any other welter.

i'm afraid pugilistic power's post may happen five or ten years from now. but if mayweather is going to be remembered, i hope its not going to be in the welterweight division. mayweather did nothing in that divisionn worthy of remembering. it's an insult to guys like cotto and margo and other fighters who are now sorting out the welterweight history of our time.

Its an insult to call those guys great welters, when their not welters. their middle weights trying to fight at welter.

they are the welterweights of our generation now. mayweather too benefited from 24-hour weigh-ins. mayweather is a big superfeatherweight compared to the 130 pounders of yesteryears.

yeah, but when he was at welter he wasnt gainging weight after the weigh in. he was fighting at exactly 147 and winning. and i dont think any of the current welters will go down in history in the top 10 of welters.

    951 posts and counting!

Yeah, he wasn't gaining much although he's been to the 154 pound division and went back to fight a natural 140 pounder at 147. still, his victories at welterweight aint the type that would make any fighter be remembered. he was great at 130 and his reign probably competes with arguello's reign. but at 147, he was merely a popular name while the real fighting is being done by others.

I admit that his career at 147 is nothing special. But he's favored to beat any welter you put in front of him. He'll be remembered as the guy who went up numerous weight classes and won titles.

I apologize, I should of said Swollen eye, and yes Floyd's nose was bleeding. I do give Floyd credit for beating a champ in Baldo, he got a belt.
Oscar is past prime no matter at what weight. Do you really think Oscar was better competition than Cotto at Welter?
