Question To Mayweather Fans, Not Bashing Him... Honest...

yes of course he could clinch cotto. even margo. but the difference is these bigger guys would have a lot better reaction than hatton to those clinches. they have a lot more firepower either to hurt mayweather in close contacts.

i disagree mayweather just tags cotto all night. i think cotto would do more damage to mayweather than the other way around. and at corners, there is no way mayweather gets the better over cotto. this isn't the lower weight classes anymore where PBF could just shrug off the punches and slip. these are body punches from big guys who bang.

in welterweight, i pick cotto, williams and margo to beat PBF. especially williams.

i don't disagree PBF wouls beat oscar if he showed up and all he got was that jab minus his prime reflexes. that's why i was arguing cotto was a better competition than DLH. i might change my mind though had dlh came to fight forbes with effective pressure and better stamina.

 

just to up my post count, welterweight right now isn't populated with bums. it's one of the deepest welterweights since the days of hearns srl, etc. to call them bums speaks alot about your boxing knowledge. and to say that mayweather had nothing to accomplish in this deep welterweight division is like saying pac has nothing to accomplish at lightweight and some more. it presumes mayweather has the best resume of all fighters today when in fact it isn't. look at his resume at 140. now how dare you say he has nothing to accomplish at 147?

I think its fair to say Floyd record as a welter weight is a bit over rated, However his razor thin win over DLH does highlight that career at welter and that was at jr Middleweight.
But that doesnt entirely let Floyd off the hook here we have to look at how Floyd did in that fight and even though he won it was not an exact clear win, and when I mean clear I am not talking only dominant I mean in terms of what he was able to do in there with De La Hoya, he didnt bust Oscar up as did others before him.
and the fight resulted in a single point SD, good win but not a very rock solid win. his fight with Baldimor was simply about taking the biggest cut of money along with the strap Floyd loves the best and the true WW Title at the time, dont blame him for that neither, his performance in that fight was hardly P4P status as well.
Floyd needs a fight with a guy like Margarito maybe even Cotto a fight that will make Floyd look suspect one that will test him in each area and should he win in a fight like that, nothing could tarnish his legacy, and that fight I beleive is with Antonio Margarito.
Tony is the only welter weight out there now that would give Floyd a nights worth of work, and lets forget about who wins for the moment, Floyd will be in harms way until the fight is over and should he win under those circumstances WOW! what I dont understand is why his fans wouldnt want to see this fight.

 

I don't think he belives anyone out right now can beat him ... no matter if he came back after a 2 yr layoff or stayed retired ... one thing that pushes him just as much as the money was staying undefeated and he put that on the line everytime he fought ... i'm sure another fight against a fighter who's not as skilled or as schooled as him would be that big of a deal.

 

the thing about floyd is always that "one" guy out there. before he beat hatton everyone was calling for him to fight hatton. he destroyed him and now everyone has written hatton off. people are just never satisfied with who he beats..

i truely dont believe there is a guy 154 and lower that can beat floyd..

 

I strongly disagree. I think that it might be fair to compare Jones and Toney to these Legends but not Mayweather.

Duran had nearly 100 fights at the end of his career. He beat Ken Buchanan for the lighweight title in 1972 and Iran Barkley for the middleweight title in 1987. Needless to say how a fight between Mayweather and Duran at lightweight would end.

Hearns beat Cuevas for the welterweight title and later a prime Virgil Hill for the lightheavyweight crown in 1991. Needless to say how an outcome between those two at welterweight would end.

As you can see those were huge jumps in weights.
Mayweather is certainly very talented but he is a level under those legends. If mayweather comes back and beats the likes of Cotto and Margarito, then we can start talking.
Nowadays people simply pay too much attention to those bogus titles.

There is nothing wring with his legacy. He just made himself the arrogant "bad guy" during the promotion of the Oscar fight, and now everyone is coming out of the woodworks wanting to see him lose. He would still be a tough draw for any welter out there. I think Margo and Paul have the best chance of beating him if he came back, but those chances aren't extremely high.

 

u mean, those chances are extremely low. and yeah, he made himself the bad guy, but he was really just focused on calling it how it was and telling the truth. besides, if he didnt do what he did, that fight wouldn't have sold like it did. he sold that fight.

 

Floyd is an entertainer, and although he may be a jackass to some, that doesn't mean he isn't a COMPLETE ****ING BOXER! People really thought he was going to get KTFO against Hatton! REALLY!?!?! I guess they weren't paying attention these last years.

People say Margo will pound him. When has he ever gotten pounded? He would dance around Margo like he did on that TV show.

And as far as my boy Paul, Floyd is too slick at the moment, but I seriously think experience will make him improve to be better than any of the recent Welters if he stays there.
