i think its cool that mexicans consider him one of their own. but its just not as one sided like obama is half white yet people mistake him for being full african or the same with tiger being half thai.

    Viva America Latina.

Cultures may differ from country to country & even within a country... however, America should be united (which doesn't mean the same thing as being or becoming the same as everyone else). End of the day, while most ppl may be Mestizo & some may be indigenous... -- it matters not. This world is one... and so should be its people.

Unite first, starting with those closest.

So I say, Viva America Latina! ;)

oh and that Duran, helluva fighter ;) ;)

Roberto Duran grew up and lived in Panama, but has said in interviews all his victories are dedicated to Mexico just as much as Panama. On another note I know you had to punk out on your original comment but understand this, Mexicans (and hispanics in general) along with any native indians are the only ones that belong here.

Mexicans give Duran his props and regognize him as being half Mexican, but he was born and raised in Panama, thats his culture. So he fights under the Panamanian Flag.

more likely his dad was a chicano. i'm a chicano of mexican and puerto rican descent. believe me, when i meet my relatives they don't consider you mexican or puerto rican. of their descent yea, but there's still a difference from mexicano and chicano and will go as far as calling u gringo sometimes. so if this is true, technically roberto duran is a panamanian fighter of mexican AND american descent. :D tripped out, huh? then alot of americans are gonna start claiming him as their own 2!

Mexican and chicano are the same blood homie, sure theres a difference in customs but aside from that the only difference is what side of the border but we are all raza. And dont get confused homi everyone born from Canada to the southern most tip of south america can be called an american.

Simon. That's true, we're RAZA, but that's more what u feel in your heart. Like I mentioned earlier, my Mexican side especially don't consider me 100% Mexican when I go spend some time with them because we have different customs and I don't live with them daily. As for being American, that just depends what region or country you live in karnal. When you go to Mexico, even though you're right, you tell a gringo a Mexican is an American, they'll probably laugh at you. I think if someone was to go Europe and they ask you at the airport for passports, they ask you what country you come from, not what continent. Asi es la onda.

Check it out, I'm Chicano and I consider all Latinos my brothers. Before modern day borders there were Natives in every part of America (the continent) as well as Puerto Rico, Cuba, etc. Europeans came and mixed with the Natives. That is why it is hard to distinguish most latinos or to be able to guess where someone comes from just by looking at them. Many Puerto Ricans happen to look Mexican because their mix is mainly Taino Indian and Spanish. Similar to an Aztec or Mayan or other Natives mixed with Spanish. Some Puerto Ricans look black, because many are. The majority of Puerto Ricans aren't black but it seems that way because many of the baseball players and athletes are. That's like people being under the impression that The US consists of mostly black people cause they saw the Dream Team play basketball. Obviously not true. Alot of East Coast Mexicans that get taper fades and dress similar to Ricans can easily be mistaken. Either way, whether Native, Spanish, or black or all 3, Latinos share blood that was present far before Colombus and also share the Spanish blood and on the bigger picture we are all brothers. Yeah people have pride in their countries. Just like people show pride in the state they are from. That doesn't mean an Arizona Chicano is much different or better than a Cali Chicano. We are all the same in the end. We just take pride in our particular territory. Even if Duran wasn't part Chicano I would have as much pride in him.

Yeah but that's not what the question is. If Cotto's mother was Mexican and he was fighting Margarito I would still consider it a PR vs Mexican fight.
