Question to those who claim Tyson Fury is still lineal champ. Would he still be if Lennox returned?

So here's a good example. You claim 'everyone' agrees with your interpretation, well newsflash, cue dramatic music, everyone doesn't/didn't/won't in the future.

Fury was rightly stripped of his titles, even IBF who who tookn action very qucikly when Fury confirmed he wouldnt be fighting their mandatory. You can't hold the belts for ransom.

Ring magazine should have stripped Fury of the title much sooner.

Huge Fury fan but no way is he lineal still. If Joshua and Wilder would have fought this year that would have been for the new lineal in my opinion. Whenever the #1 and 2 fight the winner should emerge the new lineal since there was a break in it from Fury's absense

The ghosts of past lineal champions can only be summoned by the current lineal champ.

    I'm afraid AJ doesn't qualify.

So a seance at Wembley for the ghosts of past lineal champs won't work.

It will need to be rescheduled for the bright lights of Las Vegas in November.

Perhaps AJ & Fast Eddie could put on a big bash at Wembley for past alphabet heavyweight champions?

Get your autograph books ready, AJ fans.

Special guests to include Charles Martin & Bermane Stiverne.

Someone could ask Bermane about the time Deontay sparked him out in 1.

I personally do not view Ring as the sole authority on lineage.

But the best point you brought up that I agree with is the age factor. Lennox retired years ago and is how old now? Fury "retired" at a very young age in a sport where boxers tend not to walk away willingly so young. There is a point of no return, and there is no solid rule on this - it's subjective (historically I think 5 years is a fair indicator of that line). But in my eyes, Fury is clearly still the legitimate heavyweight championship. Put differently, AJ and Wilder have become the 2 dominant heavyweights during Fury's absence, but neither one of them can rightly claim the lineage until Fury ultimately loses.

That aspect is certainly subjective and open to debate/interpretation. When a lineal champion retires permanently, the consensus #1 and #2 can rightly battle for that spot, but who decides who the #1 and #2 are with so many corrupt alphabet bodies and so many differences of opinion?

It's a tough call, but I would confidently state SOMEWHERE along the way, Wlad took out the #2 guy at some point during his long and dominant reign. A lot of people tend to mark the Chagaev bout as the point where Wlad staked his claim, but others may differ.

If it is 1 v 2 then it wasn't v Chagev because Vitali was still active then and beat Samuel Peter a few months prior so was clear top 2. Think transnational boxing board made him lineal champ after beating Povetkin in 2013.

But I would say if you consider the belt vacant through Furys inactivity and should be competed for by number 1 v number 2,then couldn't Joshua v Povetkin be considered for the lineal belt?

To me, its not cut and dry who should be number 2. Joshua is clearly number 1, but has Wilder really done enough to overtake Povetkin who was a mainstay at 2 until his drug bust but has had a steady stream of solid wins since . Sure he beat Ortiz but who had Ortiz ever beat to make a win so significant? Heck at this point, I would even say Whyte has nearly beaten as many proven guys as Wilder.

And if we are disqualifying Povetkin from competing due to a drug bust, (much like people say should see Canelo stripped at Middleweight) shouldn't Fury also have been stripped
