Yeah, even in terms of skills though Maidana isn't a complete chump like. Certainly leagues above Prescott for instance.

I'm actually surprised about the way it went. I had this one pegged as one of those that you'll tear your hair out making a pick about but you'll end up with a decisive outcome - Maidana early or Khan in the middle rounds was what I was tossing up. Khan's beard is still thoroughly in the shaky bracket IMO, and the fact that he struggled with somebody like Maidana proves what I've been saying for a while about his limited skillset. Most of his success is predicated on physical advantages, can't see him doing too well at a higher weight. The best we'll see from him is taking over a decent division; all this P4P superstar stuff is just crap at the mo.

Nice analysis and I pretty much agree with everything.

Khan showed grit, determination, guts and durability which I didn't think he had in him.

How he even managed to stay up after the 10th, and then fire back with an offense of his own in the 11th and final seconds of the 12th is beyond me.

    A great, great fight.

    FOTY for me definately.

A sound victory for brown people all around. I am pleased.

I really did NOT think Khan could take that kind of punishment though. The boy has become a man.

    Ortiz got robbed.

    Good old Mijares.

It's true though that it's really important to see textbook or cute technical types in with the awkward punching maniacs.somebody that isn't just going in for a polite textook boxing contest.Khan obviously isn't quite as vulnerable to being knocked out of his stride, or discouraged as was thought.

I agree with all of that.

Khan's punch resistance is poor but he can be hurt and stunned.

I don't think anyone of the top 5 at 140lb would have been punched around the ring like, because of their better punch resistance.

    Those were the days.

Yes, it's true, you turn your back on yourself and you end up beaten just because nobody has thrown a lead uppercut with the trailing hand at you in the gym that year.

Maybe, but it's equally hard to see someone stealing those rounds from him if he lands those shots. We should get to find out in fairness. Maidana will get another big fight out of that, even if it's not against Khan.

At any rate I think Khan will clean out 140 within a year. The guy who I see giving him a lot of issues is Ortiz actually, with his combination of skill and power he will be the toughest. Khan will outbox Bradley and Alexander by a solid margin, imo.

Agreed. I'll say it's improved with the weight. And his conditioning is better which further proves it. I thought he was hurt multiple times by decent shots. And the big shots Maidana did land in the 10th had Khan in massive trouble. He was rubbery legged from a round in a half at that point. Even in the 12th he didn't start flurrying till the last 10 seconds. Part of a good chin is a good ability to recover from shots. I'll admit, I was surprised he took it and hung in there. He was tough and had massive heart. I couldn't believe Maidana didn't finish him. His chin, is poor. Just not get hit by a jab and get KOed bad like some people were persisting.

    Terrific post.

Cortez is far removed from his Bowe-Holyfield I days. Just awful over-doing it and inconsistency with his reffing.

Great post. Khan hung in there. Many most be suprised he escaped the 10th. But he was still visibly rubbery legged in the 11th. We seem to make distinctions between chin and powers of recovery but I feel they're quite related. That storm changed the entire fight and Khan needed to safely keep on the bike to preserve himself. No shame in that, but if one or two big punches affect you so strongly it says something. It's improved, though. But the idea that no one would take these punches. What about the guy he won the title off of? Ortiz? Maidana can really punch. How many 1 punch KO's does he has? AN absolute brute, though. Khan took body punches that also impressed me.

It could. Think Khan would win. Better speed, better range, and more importantly better conditioning.

Sensible post, Greg. It's how I see it. All this is moot though. His chin is better than what was thought, and he showed he can take it from a good puncher. And take it enough... still let's not go labeling it's great. The guy was affected deeply from a few punchers for the rest of the fight

I was actually just thinking that Berto-Khan would be a great 147 contest for Khan to take after a couple fights at that weight. I'm not sure how long Berto will stay at Welter, but it would be a great fight. I'd also say that Berto has more than just decent pop, the punch he put Hernandez away was dynamite Ray Robinson type stuff. That shot would have knocked out a LOT of fighters.
