I've know Angelo for almost 20 years...as I live about an hours drive west of the Central coast.

He's an okay promoter if the shows are small but his lack of imagination and savvy is revealed when he tries the larger promotions...but that's the case with everyone - we all hit a ceiling at some point.

As a boxing trainer he's not that good, but he's far from the worst.

Specifically, Hyder's slapping of Green was because he was frustrated and embaressed that Green was making him look bad.

His personality is quite self-centred in that respect and he lacks the tactical know how to give Green the necessary instructions to make an adjustment mid-bout...which is the hall-mark of a competant cornerman.

Essentially, they had one plan, based on a false opinion about Tarver's condition and when it failed there was nothing else in the kit bag.

However, that's not ususual for Australian trainers - Johnny Lewis' Harding vs Dennis Andries was a classic case of a trainer not knowing how to stop his fighter from being hit with loaded right hands with even a rudimentary adjustment...."you knew you were gonna have to suck it up Jeff" were Johnny's sage instructions.

Given Hyder's had some experience as an amateur he is not a 'dangerous' trainer to his fighters like some so called trainers are, but again in the top echelon his tactics and strategies are found wanting.

He compensates by ensuring his fighters are in excellent cardiovascular condition and most of the time thats's enough.

I suspect that Green took the Tarver fight on Angelo's assessment of Tarver's physical condition, and that obviously proved a poor judgment.

Possibly Team Green believed their own hype (i.e. Ang's idiotic comment that Danny's jab was harder than many Heavyweight right hands), or alternatively they felt that after dispatching a series of poor opponents at Green's own catchweight that he really was the goods at crusierweight.

Either way, it was very poor opponent selection, and came as a consaquence of the Brigg's travesty which was similarly a bad selection.

As to Hyder's street-fighting prowess, he couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.

He did however have a large number of amateur bouts, but these were in the military where you often fight the same opponents repeatedly or novices giving it a go and the talent pool isn't very large.

He was a jab 'n' move boxer.

After leaving the armed forces he became a prison guard and worked at Kariong.

He was born in the UK...I think he migrated here as a child.

He never fought pro to my knowldge.

very informative thank you , iv'e seen him in Greens corner a few times and wondered , can't fault the lad really especially if your claim that he was responsible for Danny's fight selection of Antonio Tarver is gen .
