On the other hand, with the speed (and power) of Roy Jones, and the chin of Moorer, Roy may very well stop Moorer. I definitely see Roy landing first in that battle. What happens after Roy lands would tell us a lot.
"and the chin of moorer"😂 michael moorer never was stopped at 175(never lost and his chin was exposed only by heavyweights who could hit hard) and had 100% of kos at 175, jones got knocked the **** out at 175 by a much weaker puncher than moorer
roy jones was a puncher at mw and smw,he never was a real puncher at 175. if moorer could beat holyfield who did hit miles harder than jones then he would have no problem taking shots from the title guy
I am in no way saying Moorer could not catch Jones and stop him. But, Moorer never faced anybody with speed like Jones. A prime Jones would clearly be the toughest test MM ever faced at LHW. Moorer has impressive power. But he never defeated anybody of note at LHW despite many worthy available contenders. And, his chin at LHW is a bit of a mystery. Most of his opponents at LHW were over the hill, or just plain unskilled. His chin was barely tested there.
i agree with you except for the chin part, maybe he was not tested in wars but you are assuming that his chin at lhw was just like it was at hw, and the fact is that he never was stopped at 175 and jones was brutally
wasnt that Jirovs first fight at HW and firzt fight in like 2 years?? of u aks me Toney fighy did a number on Jirov
He lost to Toney while at his peak 1.5 years earlier. He effectively ended Joe Mesi's career in a spirited losing effort earlier that year. He was a pretty heavy favorite to beat Moorer. Considering that Moorer ended his career respectably post Tua, any talk of him being shot for that fight is bs. It was a terrible style matchup for him and he'd get stopped by Tua more often than not at any stage of his career.
I agree that it was bad style matchup for Moorer, no doubt about it. But Moorer 2002 was well past his best. He was 3 years off the ring. Not only that, he went through long depression and alcohol addiction through that 3 years. He was never the same and lost widely to unknown Cuban shorlty after loss to Tua.
tell that to Montell Griffin. Prime for prime Jones would box Moorer silly at 175 lbs. Moorer was straight ahead. He never even fought the elite of the divison in his own time. Faded Leslie Stewart, who was beaten more easily by Don LaLonde and Virgil Hill and decisoned by Bobby Czyz - before Moorer beat him, was his best opponent at 175 lbs. Moorer had not proven himself as anymore than 4th best currently in the division, when he moved up to heavyweight. It was very disappointing to fans that we never got to see some great action fights between he and the other champs.
Yeah, but he was two years into a comeback when he fought Tua. I'm sure his team thought he had a good chance of keeping distance and winning that, then cashing out in a big fight. I don't know what kind of condition Moorer was in for Castillo, didn't watch it, but Castillo was good enough to upset anyone who was unprepared. He was undefeated. Anyway, my point isn't that Moorer was prime for Tua but that he was more like Ali against Norton than Ali against Berbick. That loss isn't a total write off.
