I've read a lot about Roy's glass jaw from people like Spadafora but I am curious, as I wasn't as much into boxing during the Jones Jr years. Is his chin genuinely weak or is it because he is shot, in the same way Morales' chin deserted him as he got old? I find this hard to believe as Roy doesn't seem to take as many shots as Erik. Could it be not the shots taken but the large amount of weight lost post Ruiz?
Roy was very hard to catch with a clean punch in his prime. Fact is, he has just gotten easier to hit. His chin was probably never that great
Yes and he doesn't have the footspeed to get out of the way like he did in his prime but you're right. He didn't start showing his "glass" chin until after the Ruiz fight.
roy has always had a china chin the truth is that when his reflexes diminished, he never had the skill to develop a plan B. every other top class boxer has always had a plan B and been able to adapt in the ring. this is why roy is not a true ATG like leonard and ali, he could not adapt. no matter what anyone else tells you, trust my opinion as i am correct.
Every fighter who makes just as much effort to not get hit as they do to hit themselves has a reason for it:good
No, this is complete bull****.... A fighter that has always had a china chin can not start at 154, move up and win a heavyweight belt. Jones looked tiny compared to Ruiz, and got hit a few times cleanly. If his chin was china, he would not have been able to take a punch from a heavyweight. That is a fact.
Great responses! If he got so far with such a weak chin, it gives me hope for Amir Khan. It does seem like a coincidence that the KOs started after the move down from HW, but that could be attributed to his reflexes slowing as much as his punch resistance weakening.
People say Roy Jones has a weak chin because he has been knocked out three times by shots that most fighters eat. Let me tell you something...the guy has no chin, bottom line. He almost got knocked out AGAIN by Tarver for a little left hook...there really is no debate. It's more fact than opinion.
Punch resistance can diminish just like any attribute of a fighter as he gets older, this is common sense..... Yes Roy in his prime was able to get out of the way much better, but he did move up in weight a great deal and was hit. I am not saying Roy had a great chin, but it had to be at least average to be able to take a clean power shot from a heavyweight being so much smaller. Roy's whole body looked frail after he moved back down, and his punch resistance suffered.
You wanna talk fact? How does a fighter that has always had a glass chin, start at 154 and move up to win a heavyweight belt??? Yeah, you can say he never got hit, but he was hit cleanly by Ruiz in the face and took it well. If his chin has always been as bad as you say, he would have been knocked out in the first round by any heavyweight, let alone a belt-holder, that was able to knock down Holyfield. You are just a Roy hater, and being a hater of any fighter blinds you to facts.
