Very nice testimony from Burt. Some of these fellow posters are really low class. Hopefully no one dismisses them as they grow old.
The rose-tinted recollections of yesteryear are hardly the basis for an objective discussion comparing eras. That said, I liked very much Burt's input and miss it very much. There is great history there that, except for what the few write down, gets lost as a generation moves on.
Well neither are the dubious, quick to dismiss views a few other posters take, especially the ones who actively try and pick holes in great fighters games and careers. In fact, both over generalising views are tiresome, repetitive and end up with people sounding ridiculous. Just something to think about.
it amazes me how they can 'dismiss' 15 Fight Prospects, from Historical Great Competitive Era's I might add... yet suck off 20 fight champions from historical poor era's. that and rejecting Actual RECORDED History & Commentary from those times too.
In any historical discussion, distance gives perspective. Those actively clinging to memories of their halcyon days do not provide accurate analysis. This axiom is a given in the studies of history. Just something to think about it.
Hopefully no one is disrespectful enough to boil down your opinion based on life experience and wisdom into an “ok boomer” moment. It’s condescending. Maybe humble yourself a little. Your opinion is just that...your opinion.
Take it or leave it. I could give a sh#t. I present my arguments minus nostalgia. I have met most the heroes of my era and most were jerks. Plus, I 've gotten to the age where I recognize the sport as a total scam, for both fighter and fan. I have no allegiance to the endeavor. It could be banned tomorrow and my life wouldn't change one iota
If I have learned one thing in my 10 years here - it is to take the opinion of old-timers (fans, trainers, reporters or the boxers themselves) with a grain of salt.
Bump because Burt name was requested. Looks like Burt has passed away along with John Garfield....but at the very least we have an invaluable archive hear to source when we need them.
My apologies if I was wrong. I did a quick scan and thought I saw something eluding to a passing but I am very happy to be wrong
