I started watching old fights of his from his pre 2000's days and had some questions who tought him to box? did he learn b4 jail? in jail? after jail? did fisher help him even more or was he largely self taught i watched Jones 1 a month ago and i know neither were at their best in the sense that they were to go on to be legends but just how prime was hopkins in that fight? i have seen people call Hopkins green in that fight but he did a lot of things right in that fight got hit very little and fought a very smart veteran like fight how would a rematch with Jones when it made the most sense go, say after the Trinidad fight or in 02 or 03 just after Hopkins beat De La Hoya to reach another status and Jones was the man before they ran into Tarver and Taylor how would that go?
Go onto YouTube bro I think there is a Bernard Hopkins beyond the glory on there which will answer everything you need to know
As far as Hopkins jones 1. Both said prior that eachother was the hardest fight yet, you could say hop was green but then again Roy hadnt really been tested yet either.
Hopkins would never win. Neither the younger one that lost to RJJ. Nor the older one that beat a midget in Trinidad and lost to Jermain Taylor. Nor the older one that lost to Calzaghe. Nor the older one that lost to Dawson. No version beats RJJ.
1. yes he did learn in jail but through a career start loss, bowie polished his boxing. After the Taylor loss, he became his own man even tho Nazim helped him a lot in the tarver fight and Freddie in the Winky fight. 2. Hopkins was in his prime physically against Jones in 93 but not maybe technically, strategically, that would happen after vthe MW tourney and several IBF MW title defenses. 3- In truth and all honesty, Hopkins did his best but that was not enough against a man who would KO tate i his next fight and start a legendary career. he also had all if almost all of his undefeated record by KO so losing 8 rounds to 4 ( alol three judges cards) and ahaving been a former IBF number one contender under Butch Lewis and Michael Spinks in D.C. in the undercard of Bowe-Fergunson was not bad at all, nothing to be ashamed of. 4. You could never know but I sense that Jones had too much even for a more inteligent and craftier Hopkins after the Tito fight. It should not have happened after that. 5. If Hopkins had not beat his business parter the way he did and the way he made his 20th title defense against Eastman b4 losing close and in my opinion, highly contyroversially in both fights, if he had not won that shutout against Tarver but had taken Jones right after trinidad, he could have never made a real name for himself, despite having lost fairly to Calzaghe and to Dawson the second time around...
