Discussions like these are meant to make a better forum. ESB (the site) can't do quality control of most of what happens here, I'm not blaming it.
It's cyclical.....but I believe it's a larger scale now. Trolling is a bit higher than usual IMO, and you can tell that even good posters are starting to get aggravated and lash out. I think it's worse now than it was when I originally joined in late 03 early 04. Still a good site, but it's getting to the point where I don't even like to post anymore because someone always attacks you (and not your post) or just rearranges what you've said so they can find a way to argue with you.
Its funny because many in the lounge that I dont ever remember posting here said that they just got fed up and haven't been back since. Thing is, for me, I want to talk boxing. Much of the lounge talk is about absolutely nothing.
I have been posting on esb for ages.A couple of years ago it wasnt as overcrowded as it is nowadays. This board used to have a quite high number of very knowledgeable posters compared with the number of clueless kids, narrow minded idiots who think that the best of the pro game can be seen in american states like kansas or ohio, and fanatic nuthuggers. However,a great bunch of those quality posters left esb some years ago creating their own board on a different web server.ESB suffered a lot with due to that loss of quality posters.Whats worse a few years later scores of dumb youngsters from secondsout started posting here on esb. Nevertheless, esb is still the best box forum out there with lots of knowledgeable posters. Its biggest problem is probably the great number of people who now post here on esb.Too overcrowded at times!
In the time I've been here, it seems like the "Big Fights" are when all the **** starts. Did seem like there used to be a whole lot more of knowledgable discussions and alot less arguing and insults over nothing not long ago though.
I've read these forums for a long time and I wouldn't say it's changed a huge amount. Maybe the trolling is on a bigger scale now. I just laugh at them, and the e-wars that take place
I believe I've been on this site since 02 (even through the great crash) and in all honesty like life the site has its ups and its downs. I actually find it quite intresting reading the wide range of opinions that saturate the threads....I've always thought of myself as a level headed man who looks at a glass half full and I'd like to think most people use the same logic but that's just not the case. I think most trolls and huggers have a bit of unaswered and poorly filtered rage that can only be expressed through mindless babble online. I'm only human so I find myself exchanging insults and sarcasim right along with them.
I haven't been here that long but this is the best boxing forum that I have come across. I used to post on a forum (it was on a fighter's website but I don't want to name names just in case anyone is on here) and there was very little boxing being discussed. It was full of narrow minded twits. Probably still is.
I used to post at Maxboxing board before i got banned. And i got banned because i disagreed with some punk moderator. I couldn't believe it. I was polite to him and he was calling me names and i am the one who got banned. HA HA. This board is great. The people here are much more mature and for the most part, stick with boxing. It's a pleasure to post on this board.
I've almost given up on this place. I used to love to get into a great discussions with knowledgable posters even if we disagreed it was good stuff. Now I just spend most of my time here trolling because of the recent influx of noobs who don't have a clue about boxing and have brought this place down. I can step my game back up when these noobs are gone.
This forum has a great mix of good boxing discussions, comical banter and consistency. The consistency is really what I like about it. You know you can come on here and have a good debate, conversation about fighters day in and day out. Your threads, if worthwhile, will always generate some responses and even the trolls, or most of them, at least know a little about boxing and can be baited into a real discussion.
