Quick 'round scoring' question

    Can someone tell me if i'm being thick.

    If a fighter edges a round, it is scored 10-9.

    If a fighter edges the round and scores a knockdown, it is scored 10-8.

    If a fighter dominations a round WITHOUT knocking an opponent down (ie Kahn - Maidana Round 10), it can be scored a 10-8. Correct?

    But if a fighter knocks his opponent down ONCE, and then dominates the entire round, battering his opponent at will, can it be scored 10-7? If not, why? If we agree that a fighter can be awarded a 10-8 round by dominating the round alone (without scoring a KD), surely scoring a knockdown should be further reward rather than basic reward?

    I suppose you could. Though I'd wonder why the night wasn't being stopped...

    Thats the thing, it is extreme, and i would always score it 10-8, but it's not really fair. I mean, Khan edges Round 1 Maidana, scoring a knockdown, and it is scored 10-8. But imagine in the 10th, Maidana drops Kahn with that overhand right, and goes on to dominate the round, hurting Amir several times (which he did). It would still be scored a 10-8. One round was close, the other was anything but. And it's scored the same.

    It's not really fair

    I'd have no problem scoring a round that contained a sustained shellacking AND a knockdown a 10-7 round.

    Can anyone recall a judge and/or pundit scoring a round that way?

    seen a few judges give a 10-8 round when a knockdown occured taht the ref didnt call a knockdown..

    I agree in a way.. but if its that one sided it should probably be stopped?!?

    Kahn - Maidana round 10. Should that have been stopped? If no, does a knockdown make That much of a difference

    If Khan had been dropped by that bomb by Maidana in the 10th then got up and the round went the same way as it did on the night would it warrant being stopped?

    I would say no.

    You could make a case that if maidana had dropped khan early in the 10th, then battered him in the 10th as he did it would've been stopped. Knockdowns tend to make the ref more likely to jump in. If it happened late in a round I could agree with you in scoring a round 10-7

    Isn't there like some official guidelines for this kind of thing.....

    I've always been puzzled whether a round like Maidana vs Khan r.10 should be scored 10-9 or 10-8.... I've always thought that unless there's a knockdown or a point deduction then a fighter can not get less than a score of 9 in a round:think:think:think
