Quick 'round scoring' question

Not at all.

Definite 10-8 for me.

 

Normal scoring isn't really fair either though.

A fighter can dominate a round and only win it 10-9.

And then his opponent can land 6 punches to his 3 and win the next round 10-9.

So it's 19-19, but that doesn't really show how the fight has gone and isn't really fair.

 

Round 10 was a clear 10-8, nothing from Khan everything from Maidana

 

No mate, 10-8 can be scored in a round with no knockdowns or deductions if one fighter is dominant enough.

Just to follow up if Khan had got knocked down in the round and it still went the same way, could it have been scored a 10-7??

 

Yes, but whether it would be is another question. I think a lot of judges would just play safe, avoid potential controversy, and score a 10-8.

 

Ah yeah makes sense..... Man thinking about it reminds me that it's almost been a year since that ****ing awesome fight!

It is up for interpretation. I remember a Bobby Czyz fight in the 90s (against George O'Mera), Czyz won a shut out over 10 rounds with a knockdown in one round: Two judges scored it 100/89 the third had it something like 100/72...

 

The one that's always gets me is when a fighter is clearly winning a round and is on course to win it 10-9, but then gets knocked down so most would score it 10-8 the other way. If it's a flash KD with no lasting damage it seems harsh to me to have a 3 point swing.

Taking the Khan-Maidana 10th as the example, if Khan had caught Maidana at the very end of that round and knocked him down would you give him the round (and a 10-8 at that) despite Maidana clearly dominating the rest of it? :think

 

No, either 10-10 or at most 10-9 Khan.

 

Surely you would score the round 10-9 to Khan in that case. Or if you thought Maidana was winning 10-8 without it you could even score it 10-10 I suppose.
