Quick 'round scoring' question

If that happens I score a 10-9 for the fighter that scored a knockdown. For example, the first two rounds of Chacon-Boza II, where Chacon in no way deserved a 10-8 round in either, but deserved a point for pulling it out of his ass.

10-9 for me all the way in that situation. For example, even though it was a push, round 9 (I think!!!) in Mosley-Pac, the ref' scored it, so Shane gets a 10-9, which was ridiculous enough.

 

Boxing scoring isn't fair.
Guy clearly wins a round, he wins it 10-9. Round is tight as hell but one guy 90% of the time gets the same 10-9.
I would prefer if they loosened up the scoring to close rounds 10-9, clear rounds 10-8, clear round and a KD (or a Khan v Maidana rd 10) 10-7.
Take Alexander v Matthyse. Loads of certain rounds for Matthyse and others were close (which ended up all going to DA).

 

Cotto-Clottey springs to mind. I can't remember exactly how I scored it, but Clottey was winning the first until a flash KD, which gave a 3 point swing and was enough to allow Cotto to edge a close fight.

If you were going to score a round 10-8 without any knockdowns you still should deduct a further point for the knockdown. To not do so could give the battered fighter an advantage should he see his way through the trouble and see the final bell.

 

You just score it 10-9 to the fighter who scored the knockdown. Remember it is only a 10 point must system.

 

Clottey was hardly winning clearly - it was a tight, competitive round. Cotto clearly did the better work. Also, he outboxed Clottey in the final two rounds to take the decision.

That's really all there was to it - especially considering the cut Miguel had, it was a pretty good performance.

 

The 10-8 scoring for a KD is not mandatory.

If he is getting battered then 10-8 will usually surfice.

 

Hugh Mcilvanney hated the 10-point must system, because it paid no attention to what happened in the fight. Scoring 10-9 for a round where a fighter outlands with the jab seems silly compared to a round where one fighter beats the bejeesus out of the other.

 

But that's why you should award a round 10-8 in the latter scenario.

 

Yeah, I think he felt that it should be graded - a clear round should be a 10-8, a close one 10-9.

 

Change the scoring system all you like, they were always scoring that fight to Alexander.

 

Does anyone else think that Matthysse might have got Alexander out of there had it been scheduled for 12?

Really feel for him, two very debatable losses on his record, with his high KO % and pretty low profile it's going to be hard for him to get fights.

 

Never said he was winning it clearly, just that I thought he was winning it. I thought it was pretty nip and tuck for most of the fight. I had Clottey winning the first until the KD, and the 3 point swing proving vital in the final shakedown. As did many others.

That's really all there is to it.

 

I hear what you are saying and boxing scoring most certainly isnt "fair"

the only problem with grading theclear and close rounds then means that there would be an even bigger disparity in judges cards and ultimately more dodgy decisions.

 

yeah, the grading system could end up with cards all over the place.
