Had a few random thoughts on the fight.... -------------- * I am prepared for the laughter when I say this, and am prepared for the backlash (lol), but when I watch the knockout sequence... and when looking at Usyk, from Usyks guard, to him changing position and distance quickly, and slightly to the dynamics and motion of how he throws his punch, he actually looked like a cruiserweight Pac to me in the knockout sequence. If you think that sounds insane, just real quick go watch the knockout again and how Usyk changes distance and throws his shot. Thats just my view though... lol. -------------------- * Guys, I have said it before, and I will say it again for as long as I see it. I like Usyk... I do. I will actually be genuinely rooting for him against everyone at heavyweight besides Wilder (Yes, Im hearing your boo's), and against AJ it will be close, rooting wise, and he is obviously a very very good fighter, and I understand why he has the support of so many fans. But, I just do not see him being the level of fighter that seems to be the consensus... not just on this forum, but from the pro establishment as well. I usually try to listen to who the establishment thinks is good, and not so much who fans are hyped on, because trainers, fighters, ect, they might not pick individual fights very well, but they do tend to know, in general, who the 'real ones' are, in the sport. And in this case, there is indeed a consensus that Usyk is next level material. And I do not see that. Good fighter? Absolutely. The level hes being touted at? I dont see it. I genuinely expect him to get beaten by Wilder and AJ, and I actually think its pretty unreasonable to expect a cruiser to beat those guys. I dont hold it against Usyk one bit for not being able to beat the best giants of this generation. The best thing about boxing though, is we will get to see. I will be here to happily admit I was wrong, should he go on to become the heavyweight champion. ------------- * The respect that Usyk showed Bellew in the ring, after the fight, he does a kiss, a bow, and some sort of motion, that was a beautiful thing to see. Pretty awesome stuff from Usyk there. Seemed like genuine genuine respect for his vanquished opponent. ------------------ * They should have done a better job at realizing Bellew was concussed and considered waiting a bit before letting him address the crowd. He was clearly out of it and probably shouldnt have been giving an interview. He was told what round he was stopped, and half a minute later couldnt remember what he was just told. ------------------ * There is something about UK fights that just have something more to them to me, than american fights. There seems to be almost a boxing fraternity over there, I know the US has fighters and coaches that are regulars to the boxing scene over here, but it just doesnt seem as tight nit and prevalent as it is over there. But maybe thats just my perception of it. --------------------- With Usyk preparing to launch his assault on the heavyweight division, I cant think of the last time I enjoyed the division this much. Cant wait to see how things play out. ----------------- Usyks seek and destroy, pure warrior style mentality, in terms of seeking out the best to fight, and not just the path of least resistance, is refreshing to the sport.
I agree sometime with eye ball test he doesn't look all that. But his resume says otherwise, he's taken lots of 0s and belts away at his opponents backyard. These can not be discounted. Most belt holders only got one belt away from home and make defenses at home. As for the venture to heavyweight, that remains to be seen. If only the heavies are only as big as the 90's, he will stood a great chance, but these mammoth we have nowadays, I don't know but obviously will root for him.
He was getting hit with them early but then adjusted. I would not say he is wide open to anything. I don't know that he is going to beat Joshua but the guy is a pretty damn complete fighter.
My thoughts on the U.K. vs America is not only the passion and support of the home fighter but I’m Sure,Spence,Parker and Usyk would agree that for all the talk of going into the Lions den,the U.K. public do appreciate and show respect for those who choose to fight here. I have friends who’d never seen Linares and Tank Davis before but wanted to see more after seeing em do their thing.
It’s also hard to judge Usyk from him taking a few shots off Bellew as if he’d do the same thing against AJ.
agree with all your points. he has beaten all of his challengers in his division, which was customary for any champ at one time, but i did not see that clear separation in skill with tony. yes he is better, but the things that make him better are not necessarily that uncommon when looking at the #1 guy in any division, doesnt make the others p4p #1. resume, they say. ok, i cant argue there, ive only seen him vs bellew, i just havent been aware of the greatness of the players in that particular division, so im stuck with judging what ive seen.
Agree. Bellew made no attempt to engage and Usyk was forced to make the fight. Of course he is going to get caught with some counters in a world title bout, but if you look at his face post-fight, he didn't really take much punishment. People are exaggerating the number of punches he took and failed to recognise the adjustments he made to avoid them as the fight progressed. Second point, just because Usyk is going to HW doesn't mean his fans believe he is going to unify. I'm just glad he is taking the challenge and I am interested in how it unfolds. I think HW is a weak division and want to see if I am right. If Usyk can take Joshua's shots then without corrupt officiating I don't see how he will lose. Similar to Wilder, but his windmilling won't be effective. Wilder's strength and power are his only shot against Usyk. Fundamentally,if Usyk can carry strength into HW I don't see any major threats apart from stylistic difficulties such as a Luis Ortiz.
People saying Usyk doesn't match up well with Joshua because he got caught a few times against Bellew don't make sense, two totally different fighters. Bellew is faster and sneakier than Joshua and probably has a better ring iq too, Usyk will see the body builder coming a mile off !
Interesting evaluations of Usyk following the Bellew fight. Based on that fight some did not think Usyk had what it would take to compete at the top tier of the HW Division.
