The first thing that came to my mind was Herman Munster saying "DARN IT DARN IT DARN IT" with a Nigerian accent. LOL

You could make a case for Ruiz, Ortiz and Usyk as well.

    Not quite.

As has been pointed, a dose of covid with two hospital stays between the two bouts is definitely a "story."

A better story is why the rematch took place at all. Pov starched Whyte without controversy.
That should have made him the title contender.

Don't see much of a case for Ortiz. I think Whyte has clearly better wins. Usyk's case must be made on his run at CW, because Whyte's work at HW is clearly superior. Ruiz has by far the best win, so a case can be made on that even though he lacks the second tier wins compared to Whyte.

I picked Whyte to KO Povetkin in both fights. However, I would've picked even the 38 year old well past prime albeit still formidable Povetkin who lost to AJ to ice Whyte without hesitation and prime Povetkin via KO every single time no question

It WAS good resume until he had wasted almost year ( if taking in account pre fight camp and negotiations with Pov about fight time ) with Povetkin.
Pov was not mentioned for long time after draw vs Hunter and Eddie had " reanimated " Old Povetkin and put him on clauses and feeded to Whyte.
Almost 1 year wasted, in the same place in boxrec as he was before first fight vs Povetkin and 1 KO loss in fight record more.
Sadly this wasn't good choice for his career.

I agree, but it doesn't change the fact that his wins are still substantially better than anything Ortiz or Usyk has at HW. Or Hunter for that matter. The HW contenders are so afraid to take on challenges that wins over other contenders are hard to come by. It's a fairly sad state of affairs, but it is what is.

Usyk does not need anything to prove anymore per se. He now is boxing promoter and he had achieved thing rare in boxing: he was 100% legit UNDISPUTED at CW and he had fought champs in their prime and young undefeated guys.
Also he had far more close fight vs Briedis than score cards had been done and still he had won this one.
He had fought guys who never ever were down in the ring nor in ammies nor pros and in their real prime.
He does not need to prove any bare thing. He also was Olympic Gold medalist, World Championship and European Championship Gold medalist.

He unlike Loma had labored his road till world title fight by stopping 9 boxers in row and he had done things rare in boxing : he won vs boxer in his home town, had title defenses on foreign soil and had fought notable in his country tickets seller in place where he was a tickets seller, also he had fought vs boxer from Russia in Russia and defended his undisputed status vs Bellew with biased commentators because he was not a point fighter like ppl think.

Hunter is boxer I respect more than Wilder. He took in the ring prime Usyk who then already had good resume and even good stoppage %. Yeah, he lost but I value fights like this higher than easy fights with old, over the hill boxers, boxing corpses, ghosts and shadows.
Lad had lost, no offense there.

Usyk has a lot more to prove at HW. Hunter's highlight is a draw with 39-year old Poverkin.

Yeah but at least this was more fresh Povetkin than Whyte had in the ring.

I think he is over the hill. Really.
Ofc he might beat Wilder and old Pulev, old corpse of Povetkin's ghost shadow of legless Povetkin.
I don't see him beating Ruiz, A.J or Fury and he will not beat also Hrgovic and maybe will lost vs old Briedis at HW or vs Dorticos, I'm not joking there.

Well, I had valued Whyte relatively highly until Eddie had " reanimated " very old Mr Povetkin and then had appeared that eddie had clause for fight he had sold as eliminator fight.
In eliminator fights usually rematches happens if the fight had been scored as a DRAW or ruled as NC ( No Contest ).
LOL, nope, appeared they does have a clause. WTF.

Because Whyte was winning the fight and floored Povetkin twice prior to getting knocked out cold.

Because Whyte had a rematch clause which Povetkin agreed to.

Povetkin may have been heavily effected by Covid but he signed to fight when he could have delayed it. Surely he and his team are to blame not Whyte and Hearn as a lot of people seem to be doing?
