Where the hell did Eddie get him from? No disrespect but no one has heard of him, even Quigg and his team. More importantly how did this guy get a world title shot?
Hidenori Otake is highly ranked with some of the governing bodies (No.3 with IBF) and (No.9 with WBO) so I guess he deserves a crack at the title. Surprisingly there are 215 licensed professional Super Bantamweight boxers in Japan, so you would hope this provides a decent standard for the main domestic titles. Otake's experience at fighting top level domestically should at least give him some suitable preparation before travelling to the UK. Whether Otake will seriously cause Scott Quigg any problems is a different story and I expect Quigg to successfully defend his title for the fifth time (probably by KO in the mid to late rounds).
Haven't checked him out so I stand to be corrected but I suspect he will be undersised following the recent trent with Quigg. Sooner or later I think they will come unstuch when they stick him in with a decent smaller guy as happened to Buglioni.
It's not a world title Rigondeaux is the WBA belt holder. The WBA "regular" world title belt is just another largely meaningless trinket
I think there's Super and Regular so technically WBA have 2 world champions. But I'm with you, its ridiculous - its the same with Froch's WBA Regular belt it simply isn't viewed as a world title, more of a WBC Silver type.
Them rankings loads of bull. Dont go by them. Shannon Briggs is as high as 7. Paul Smith 5 etc Hes number 8 on box rec thats the ranking to go on. The Japs are good in the low weights. I think the odds on the Jap are good
Just because he comes from thousands of miles away, and we know little about him, does not make him undeserving. He can't be much less deserving of a "world" title shot than Andy LEe or Matt Korobov. Can you imagine how THAT must look to people in Japan?
He hasn't got a world title shot, quigg isn't a world champion. You're right though I've never even heard of the guy.
regardless of otakes standings at domestic level in japan and rankings from other governing bodies its still obvious what is going to happen here and that is why eddie hearn picked him...
By the way I was defending Otake here, not Quiggs management, who are a disgrace at this stage. This is Scott umpteenth defence against unknowns. Shameful.
Its quiet simple Eddie does not put any of his fighters in dangerous fights if they r on an undercard It's the same show every time, a headline fight and then all his "star fighters/fake world champions" on the undercard vs unheard of nobodies talked up to be dangerous opponents Both Quigg and McDonnell r both fighting very very dangerous opponents yet they have no available footage on the internet of their opponents.... Come on Eddie, the boxing public ain't that stupid, give us a break
I done Otake to win on points. I honestly think there is going to be a upset on this is card and I think it is Quiggs to loose. The size of Otake he is bigger than Quigg so on the scales whos to know what difference there will be. Think the Gallagher gym would of been mad busy and because Quigg is fighting a so called unknown maybe they have over looked him. Quigg up against the unknown again might well be picking out a big fish from Japan. I think if he boxes well Otake will cause Quigg problems seems to be able to go toe to toe at times to could be a good fight.
