he obliterated one side of McEwan's face but a lot of his punches didn't appear to land flush or with significant force. But they obviously did have a lot of power behind them. Stoppage was certainly weak, but the fight was one sided and would've ended sooner than later anyway. Quillin would absolutely whip awkward Andy Lee. That fight isn't even necessary. He should be fighting Martinez, Pirog, or Geale next. He's not a kid, he's arrived and it's his time.
I've actually never thought of him as having heavy hands so much as very educated ones. He lands very sharply and correctly, with textbook technique and expert placement. He knows just where to land, at what angle, and how much force to use to have a big effect (in this case, slicing and dicing McEwan's face)
Bute-Quillin would be a great match up. A perfect fight for Bute prior to meeting Ward or Froch. What do you think?
maybe it was HBO audio that had me thinking he wasn't landing as clean as I thought. I'll watch it again. He is a beautiful puncher, though, you got that right. I do think he's got a ton of pop, though, but in that understated way.
B+ He wasn't able to keep McEwan from flopping against him and buying time by grinding on the inside. That's my only nit-pick. His shot selection and boxing on the outside were beautiful. I saw some people blaming him for the frequent headbutts, but honestly those were due to a) McEwan's diving in to try and lean against Kid Chocolate and b) the usual danger of orthodox vs. southpaw.
Quillen is good, but limited. McEwan's style does nothing against Quillen's. Pirog and Golovkin stop Peter in fun fights. I'd favor him over Geale, don't know yet about how a fight with Martinez might go.
Got nothing to do with McEwan. The way KC was fighting did not look good. Wasn't moving his feet well; wasn't working angles. Was throwing sloppy punches and not turning his punches over. Just wasn't a crisp performance overall. He doesn't fight well on the inside at all, and doesn't know how to side-step when an opponent is in his chest. Yeah....just so much to work on.
From the lack of responses I quess Butey fans want no part of Quillin, which is what I expect from Butey also.
