I believe he's moving up to 168. But that man has fallen from grace pretty damn hard since the Korobov debacle. On to bigger and better things, to paraphrase a certain boxer :!:
Typical Haymon victim. Talked a lot, ducked anyone in sight. Then his career turns into a train wreck.
If he moves up, he gives up his greatest advantage: size. The SMW's are not small guys. MW to SMW has to be the biggest jump in size of any 2 boxing divisions (excluding any weight to HW of course). He's has no advantages over any SMWs and is going to get taken apart in short order.
Was just going to say this. SMW are basically LHW who can push themselves to cut a little more. It's not often you see a SMW not jump to LHW.
I think he's a man without a country, he had a series of sloppy performances at 160 because he was too drained, but he is not talented enough to move up and excel. And I think he knows it. Canelo is in the same boat.
I don't understand the hate for Quillin, he's in exciting fight, knocking people out, humble in interviews and seems like a nice guy in real life... I like him and hope he will do well and hope to see him fight soon!
Exactly, all size advantages are gone and I have the suspicion his clubbing power wont be there either
He's Black and he's under a Black company to boot. The double wammy. Reality is that boxers don't react well to being ko'd, and he may just be one of those who will walk away from the sport.
Dude it's an insult to the black dudes who'll fight the tough fights to act like Quillin belongs in that group.
He's got some good opportunities at 168. The Jacobs KO was clearly do to him being caught cold and visibly drained. At SMW his L hook will be just as effective and his OH R will cause fits to fighters like Capo, D Dirrel, Bute and DeGale. He'd have tougher fights vs bangers like Groves, Sturm and even F/N Fiegenbutz.
Quillins going to pull an Andre Dirrel and go into 3-4 years of irrelevancy before losing to a fighter like Degale. It seems like some of the American and American adopted fighters are so full of themselves they would rather not push themselves unless they're the best in the division less they become a gatekeeper. Lose once and then fight cans for a few years. I wonder if Andy Lee does the same though. Haven't heard anything about him lately.
