No the fight against Margarito was far from easy. Williams won, but had to work for it and take more punishment in that fight than he had done so in the past. In regards to the rematch against Quintana, I do have to say that the Paul Williams that showed up to their first fight seemed a bit lethargic and weight drained. Quintana must not take any chances and also pace himself a bit more. Although he was effective in their first fight, he was a bit wild in the beginning and wasted a lot of energy which took a lot out of him in the later rounds. Paul will have to make sure he gets himself down in weight the right way, or not fight at 147lbs at all. Otherwise, he will go through another embarrassment at the hands of Quintana yet again. I think this will be a more competative fight than their first. Paul will be and may come in determined, but the telling factor will be whether he comes in weight drained or not. Who knows, maybe at this point of his career, Paul can no longer make 147lbs legitimately. Legitimately healthy that is.
He did not have the same Work rate because Carlos Quintana would not allow him. whenever they got in close Quintana would unload that right hand that was landing at wil and string other punches with it then either clinch or step back out of range at very good angles making it impossible for PW to do anything. Thats why Williams wasnt punching as much, he would have just being punching at the air or at CQ's side during the clinch. That was a masterful performance by Quintana and i look for him to do it again.
Williams SHOULD take this...If he doesn't get his belt back, then there is little hope for his career with 2 L's to Quintana.
Stupid idiotic rematch just like Malignaggi-N'Dou... Let's face it: Quintana gave Williams a boxing lesson. It's wasn't humiliating, it wasn't a bad a** kicking, but still too one-sided to make an immidiate rematch for a so-called world title. Quintana is a pure boxer with very good skills but Williams' still has the style, height and punch output to make it difficult for everyone... so he might pull it off, who knows. It's not Williams' abilities but the fact that this is an IMMIDIATE rematch which is a joke... he should've put something to the table (win vs. a legitimate conteder) to earn the right to fight the champ. These contractual rematches are low blows to the sport. Who the hell is interested in Quintana and Malignaggi whooping an a** they've already whooped once?
GIFT DECISION! biased dumb*** the whole world saw paul williams beat margarito! then got outboxed by quintana. call it like it is.
I think so too. And I can also see Williams getting a gift decision so they have 3 fights. Absolutely worthless since they aren't respecting Quintana as a champion. They need to fork out some ****ing cash not that chump change that they're offering him. IMO the fact that they're offering Quintana so little money means that they don't want the fight at all.
I never considered Paul a good fighter. I think is advantages only work on certain fighters, But height and workrate only take you so far. Paul has limited power and does not have the TKO punch, all he has is a close chance of winning by UD against anyone.
i honestly think that if williams came in focused and prepared in a rematch against quintana, he'll take it. The same i feel would happen if williams gave margarito the rematch, margarito would take it. Nothing against quintana, i just did not see a focused williams in the quintana fight. but thats how the sport goes. most of the fight is in the preperation and focus...
Williams needs to be healthy to win this fight and if he's gaining 17 lbs between the weigh-in and fight night I'm not surprised at his previous performance and nor will I be surprised when Quintana hands him another beatdown Does anyone know how much weight Williams gained from weigh-in to fightnite for Margarito????
