Great catch. Whenever I would see him do that I assumed he was pulling the gloves back on as I was never sure how well they were fastened back then. He always seemed to do that after throwing a few punches, like they were slipping off.
I'll tell you another quirky one. Ray 'Windmill' White. When he came to town he brought his unorthodox bag of tricks with him. The rooster punch, the behind-the-back punch, the double-uppercut, the windmill, etc. Man, was he fun to watch.
Jimmy young had quite a bag of tricks too, he would suddenly take a casual walk in the middle of a fight sometimes, looked so funny
Just before his bout with George Foreman, he took this casual walk, passing right by a loosening up Foreman and nodded a friendly hello as it he was getting the morning paper from his driveway, nodding a casual hello to his neighbor...now to me, that was This content is protected personified.
None of that nervous twitch stuff, practically doing calisthenics before sitting on his stool petrified with fear like Ken Norton did before his fight with GF. Young was one cool customer.
good one cobra, I noticed that too, very cool guy was Jimmy young. How bout him and dokes coming ring center for instructions, dokes taps him, he taps dokes back, but that funny smile and nod while turning away was classic young. Pulling dokes trunks down between rounds was award winning! LOL
Remember him well, wasn,t he around at the same time as Hal " TNT" Carroll, Jimmy " The Cat " Dupree and Ray Anderson, all ranking LHs of the early to mid 70s, along with Andy Kendall, a real tough nut, and what about Frankie De Paula, colorful bunch, wouldn't you agree.
