This word is used way too much by fans and commentators. Let me explain.

Sometimes the fighter is badly injured, but it is not apparent to the audience. Examples like Kell Brook with 2 broken eye sockets and temporarily blind in his left eye against Errol Spence. Andrew Golota with a concussion, bleeding brain, fractured cheekbone and herniated disc in his neck v Tyson. McClellan v Benn where he took a knee in the 10th round after being rabbit punched dozens of times. And it turned out he had suffered severe brain damage.

Then we have a case like Khan v Crawford. Khan was paid over $5,000,000. He was losing. Crawford was barely warmed up. Khan gets hit on the thigh. Fine. Dock Crawford a point. Give Khan 5 minutes to recover. Instead Khan uses it as an excuse to try and get Crawford DQ'ed and then tells Hunter he doesn't want to carry on. Then claims he didn't quit. Blames it on Hunter and claims Crawford hit him in the groin.

So let's recap times the fighter was right to quit. And then times the fighter cheated the fans like Khan. In the middle ground I think you have cases like Joshua v Ruiz and Duran v Leonard.

What's middle ground about the way Duran quit against Leonard? I don't see how it's any better than Khan quitting against Crawford--if anything, it's even worse.

Yeah. The middle ground. Joshua vs Ruiz is in that area. But Joshua was concussed and had been knocked down 4 times in less than 15 minutes. Ruiz had beaten the fight out of him. And his stamina and punch resistance were gone.

And you made me think of another point. Sometimes a fighter is losing. And instead of taking a beating they get themselves DQ'd. Tyson did that against Holyfield in 1997. Though Holyfield was head butting him. Recently in England Kash Ali bit David Price 3 times: he knew he going to get knocked out.

Personally aside from obvious quitting like duran i think if a fighter even suspects they are in over their head they have the right to walk away and fight another day
.we arent in there taking the blows..so our opinion means squat

Personally, I'd much rather have seen Johnny Owen and Duk Koo Kim and Willie Classen be "quitters."

Jess Willard took the beating of a lifetime and was labeled unfairly a quitter

A true champion would die before he'd quit, even if he has massive brain damage or broken ribs or anything else

    thats just my opinion

i agree theres degrees to quitting. One of the "quits" ive always understood was Dempsey vs Willard

Tyson biting Holys ear amounted to quitting in my book also.

Fifty bucks entitles the public to see a fight ,not an execution.

I have Douglas down as taking a dive against Holyfield.
