Nothing is said about it one way or the other though. Based on this comment it's Liston who went hard at Lincoln, not the other way around;).

Tyson said almost the exact same thing in regards to himself on his documentary film Tyson... interestingly enough. I don't understand why Tyson fans get bent out of shape when that gets tossed around. I guess extremists use it as a measuring stick to discredit a fighter. When it can be equally used as a way to praise a fighter's reputation/status.

Um, why did you post on a thread that had died 4 years ago?

It's good to bump old threads, rather than start duplicate ones commenting on things that have threads for them already.

Liston certainly used intimidation. But guys like Machen and Williams weren't really bothered by him - they were crazy badasses too.
I'm not so sure Liston was intimidated at all by Clay - irritated maybe.

It sounds like you're the one who's drinking. No offense to Chris but Merchant remains extremely bright and has been a first hand reporter and commentator of the sport for over fifty years. He has first hand insights that make Chris or the rest of us look like the bleacher seat historians we may be at best.

AS champion, at the height of his powers Tyson gave an extensive interview to one of the premiere boxing mags of the day, either World or Int'l boxing, where he went on and on that the only man he did not think for sure he could defeat was a prime Liston.
