He was never motivated again, his motivation actually stopped after he beat Spinks. After that he just fought for money.
He wanted to retire after the SPinks fight because he had done it all and cleared out the division. There was nothing left for him at the time. He just destroyed his no1 contender and main rival in 91 seconds. The Douglas fight just pushed him over the edge Hence why he didnt bother training for it int he 1st place.
Tyson was one of the most naturally talented boxers ever. His decline is due to the fact that as a person he was a mess. With a more stable personality and more sense he could have been way more successful -- and no one was to know that he lacked those qualities so badly, or that it would have such a dramatic effect. The hype was totally warranted.
Mike Tyson was one of the most offensively vicious and effective heavyweights ever during the first half of a fight. Most heavyweights, including many of the ATG's would really have to be on their game to get out of the first 6. Having said that a fighter's standing should not really be judged on 'shoulda, woulda, coulda'. Yes he didn't live up to his potential and should have achieved more with a better attitude outside the ring and in training. The fact is he didn't. Still I give him his dues. Would have loved to to see him face prime versions of George Foreman, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, Jim Jeffries, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano and Muhamamd Ali. Big strong bangers with good chins and of course the speed of Ali, how good would the before fight antics have been?! - nice.
His career may have ended in a way, but using that as an excuse to claim he was indestructable in his prime is pure bull****. He was still a young man when he lost to Holyfield both times, no excuses!
My Friend i totally agree with your opinion , altho ..had Tyson had the stabilty and the sense ..would he have been the same fighter???
That's quite an interesting question. The thing is, he didn't. An elite fighter needs a lot of mental strength. Without it you might look great coming up, but after a loss that's it
