Did you guys know that Arguello NEVER lost a title defense? He lost as a challenger, but once he had a given title in his hands, godzilla couldn't pry it out!

    RIP

To man greatly adored, and loved in the boxing world.

I wish the respect and reverence he had in that world, could have have saved him from the demons, that he had.

I love James Slaters articles but to say Alexis Arguello is "arguably the finest fighter to have ever come out of Nicaragua" what is the other side of the argument?

Alexis Arguello is the reason I'm a boxing fan today......

....he was the first fighter I intently followed through his fights on CBS television.

As there was'nt the forums we have today in the internet, back in the 80's I wanted to find out what had happened and what was ahead in the sport of boxing, so I bought KO and Ring Magazines ......As a 14 year old kid I'd head to the newstand and browse the boxing magazines......if Arguello was in it, I'd buy it to take home .

I was such a huge Arguello fan growing up, I felt literally sick for days after his loss to Aaron Pryor.
As a kid, I laid awake the night he lost to Pryor so saddened that I could'nt fall asleep.

At the moment, my heart feels heavy, and I am deeply saddened by the reports that Alexis could'nt conquer the demons in life so much bigger than any opponent he ever faced in the ring.

Its hard to explain, but I'm both sad for and dissapointed in Alexis.....
.....just a bitter pill to swallow for me.....but even so, as a true Arguello fan, I'll sign off and say, thanks for the many wonderful memories, love you Flaco!

My deepest condolences to Arguello's family, his wife, sons and daughters, may God give them strenghth in this time of grieving.
