I received the sad news that ex-boxer Allen Syers has passed away after a long fight with cancer. Before coming to America Allen had a fine amateur career in the U.K. Allen came to California in the early 1960’s to start his pro career. After a few wins he fought a young Mando Ramos before a sellout crowd at the Olympic Auditorium, Allen put up a game battle but was stopped by Ramos in five rounds. After a few more bouts, Allen was force to retire because of a serious hand injury. In later years Allen stayed busy training young kids to box. Allen was one of the truly fine men in boxing, one of the nicest cat you could hope to meet. Allen Syers was inducted into the California Boxing Hall Of Fame in 2008.
