Shocking news ..... I lost a friend to that seven months ago, it was a very aggressive illness. Surprised he only had two defeats when I looked at his record ...... and yes, Black Lights is one of the best Boxing books I've read.
I found this quote about Mr. Costello on the Amazon review of 'The Black Lights' (which I just ordered used for $3.16 and free shipping!!): "You cannot help but admire Costello for his dedication and decency amid the scoundrels who flock to the sport." This quote was always my perception of him. RIP Champ.
As long as you don't have Reyes syndrome, an allergic reaction or other specific contraindication, that low a dose does little if any harm. I worked in a hospital for years, and just about every health care professional I know who doesn't have contraindications takes low dose aspirin as a daily supplement. (This includes every pharmacist, physician, nurse and dentist I have contact with where I live.) Last June when I broke my ankle, I was advised to double the dose to safeguard against clotting. The bottom line is if it does more harm than good, then why not? What just happened to Costello (55), Nick Charles (64) and Fighting Weight (at just 41) is an outrage, and this might be a simple way to do battle against the development of bladder cancer (Charles), lung cancer (Costello), colon cancer or heart (Fighting Weight) disease (all of which aspirin has been identified as a potential preventative for). I'm inclined to act, not react. Waiting until a disease like this develops is too late.
RIP He was the main character in one of the best books I have ever read on Boxing; Thomas Hausers Dark Lights. Great book
