Reports on the internet suggest Kidderminster boxer Billy Smith has taken his own life,
real sad news as this bloke was a proper fighter who would fight...anyone , anytime , anywhere. He stepped in last minute and saved shows up and down the country. A REAL FIGHTERS FIGHTER.

It is such a terrible shame when someone feels that things are so bad that they take their own life. If only people in these situations could realise exactly how much the people around them cared then things could be possibly end differently.

My thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.

Is suicide a particular issue amongst boxers? Are the stats any higher for boxers than for other professions? Perhaps it is something that needs addressing and support being on hand for those in need.

I have often wondered about the physchological aspect of boxing and whether there was anyone looking out for the fighters. It's quite an unusual profession in that most people dont go to work and get punched in the head, also the highs can be incredibly high for some and then incredible low for others.
