Suicide is an issue in society. It's the biggest killer of young men in Britain.

His record is such that in another era, he would have had more that a few lines in the mainstream press, explaining his contribution to the sport.

But those who know even a little bit about the sport, know it is fighters like Billy Smith who are the cornerstones of boxing.

Incredibly sad when anyone reaches such a low point that they choose to take their own life. Seems to happen all too often and comes out of the blue, Darren Sutherland and Gary speed just two high profiles examples.

Takes a lot of guts to step in the ring over 150 times usually as the under dog brought in to test an upcoming prospect, billy smith was a true warrior in the ring and gave a lot to the sport. Hope he's gone to a better place rip.

Very sad.Barry Jones just spoke with great compassion and integrity about this on the Bunce hour.Said some really nice things about Billy and gave some good insight at a sensitive time.
