Can't say I've seen a great deal of his fights tbh. Wasn't he four times cruiser champ?
I do remember him facing Johnny Nelson tho. Not either man's finest hour!

You could make an argument Carlos DeLeon was the first "name" Cruiserweight champion and basically kept the entire division afloat during its early years in the 1980s until Evander Holyfield came along near the end of the decade.

DeLeon wasn't a light heavyweight champ who moved up or a heavyweight champion or former heavyweight top contender who moved down.

He turned pro at 15. By the time he was 20 he was a full-fledged cruiserweight. And he became a name fighter by winning cruiserweight belts. And he was also exciting enough that TV networks covered his fights.

My favorite DeLeon fight is the Leon Spinks fight - without question. I was shocked watching it live.

    R.I.P.

Well said and accurate .. I remember his matches w ST Gordon .. overconfident, DeLeon was caught and smashed in their first fight .. he came back prepared in the rematch and did a number on ST ..
