Still can't get my head round it because I want to know why he did it. For you to actually hang yourself or even consider it then something has to really be ****ed up.
im talking all day to friends and fellow boxers who knew darren very well and after reading through this thread seeing what you posters are saying about him most who never even met darren is crazy and brought tears to my eyes, just goes to show how likeable he was for people to think of him so highly, its going to take a a hell of a long time for irish boxing to recover from a blow like this achilles no one except perhaps his family had a note been left will actually know why darren done it everyone even the ones with everything going for them have skeletons in their closet, darren would be the last person i would have thought to do this , its so sad funerals in navan irish boys incase anyone wnats to go show their respect
Thanks for the info mate.. I still cant believe it. Never felt so gutted and upset about the passing of someone I've never known or even talked to.
This one has hit me harder than the Forrest, Gatti and Arguello deaths recently. The reason for this is that while those guys had either finished with a fine professional boxing career or were about to finish their professional career at the top, Darren had just started out in the pro game and obviously showed the ability that would have taken him to the top, yet sadly we are now unable to see him reach the pinnacle of the sport which he would have done. However, Darren still achieved more than most of us will ever do in our lifetime. He had a fine amateur career which accumulated in a bronze medal at the Olympics and was adored not just by his fellow Irish countrymen, but the UK population as well, due to the warmth and integrity he showed combined with the skills in the boxing ring he possessed. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and Frank Maloney, who I hope makes a speedy recovery. R.I.P Darren Sutherland.
Just don't get it. I'm not star struck or wear tinted glasses but he appeared an all round good guy who was always happy. Just wouldn't have picked him to hang himself. A nut job like Herbie Hide or Frank Bruno would shock me but I could get my head round it.
yeah i know everyone is baffled, im sure darren wouldnt want us worrying on why he done it for whatver reason, it was selfish but if thats what he chose to do thats then who are we to judge, imagine what his family are going through i havent heard yet if a note was left or anything but i do hope so for the familys sake to provide a tiny bit of closure for them
Just can't get my head round this. It must be impossible for his family to accept for it to happen this way too. Thet question of why will haunt them the rest of their lives. I've unfortunately had two friends commit suicide and you wouldn't have suspected that either were capable so just goes to show how some people can surpress the blackest depression. Thoughts to his family
****ing hell - this is the first I've heard of it. Terrible, terrible news. The lad came across as being a genuinely nice guy, and had talent to burn. Really upsetting stuff. RIP
An absolute shocker. He was one of the sports nice guys, a great prospect with heavy but fast hands and supreme fitness. He was due to fight up here in Sunderland and we were all looking forward to him in particular. Pugilism has lost out big time. He'd definitely have been in some great domestic battles and title fights in the next few years. Thoughts also go out to Frank and his speedy recovery. :bbb
he was the best prospect of all the irish and british olympians that turned pro...... he will deeply missed R.I.P darren sutherland
another terrible loss, was going to he Sunderland show as i had only seen some of his amateur bouts. Was told he was a great prospect by my mates who had seen him box pro. Gutted today - this year keeps geing worse RIP Darren
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2009/0916/1224254651819.html apparently he was suffering with depression, having a hard time living in London and Frank Maloney was about to take him to see a pyschiatrist and thats why he was coming to see him.
The video posted on here makes it worse cos it shows you his family. Those people must be devastated now.
I was deeply saddend to hear the news that the life of Darren Sutherland came to a sudden end. He was just 27 years old. His boxing career began at the tender age of 8 years old and he went on to have an outstanding amateur career that culminated in winning a bronze medal for Ireland at the 2008 Olympic games. Inside the ring "The Dazzler" acheived national stardom. He had the lot, speed, skill, grace, stanima in abundance. Most of all he was brave. These attributes are what made many including myself predict he would be a world champion in years to come. Outside the ring it seems he suffered from personal issues that cut his career short. In the ring he gave us excitment. The response his death has evoked in us all is part effection but most of all respect. My thoughts and preys go out to the entire Sutherland family and all those that truly loved him.
