Joe always said that the part of a fight that scared him the most, was his dad carrying him around the ring on his shoulders, after he won!
A big loss. He took on the sport of boxing and won. Anyone not familiar with him-----he was a musician when Joe was an amateur. He quit the music business and dedicated himself to the sport of boxing to help his son. With no experience. He was self taught & just look at the terrific job he did. How hard he worked and took on the boxing establishment. And all he did was to have his son have a terrific amateur career and an undefeated pro career. I always thought Enzo did a great job in the corner---and was given about almost zero credit. But he did a real nice job between rounds & did absolutely terrific with Joe's bad hands. Just think of all the other fighters that could have benefitted from the highly disciplined Enzo in his corner. And listened and obeyed of course, which is something very few seemingly do. To me, a hall of fame trainer.
Very sad news, I used to keep in touch with Enzo on facebook several years back and chat with him, he was always very open and engaging. RIP.
A sad loss. He seemed a real character and nice man. Joe Calzaghe was a one off, Enzo clearly did a helluva job.
if chris eubank jnr had been managed by a guy like Enzo, he would have won a fully recognised world title (even if just briefly). This is a testament to Enzos ability as a trainer.
That's a great little precis to his career, and life. He was a special and unique character, that's for sure. RIP and condolences to his family.
