Korean boxer Bae Ki-suk (7-7-1, 4 KOs) has sadly lost his battle for life after being TKO’d by Jung Jin-ki (7-9-1, 1 KO) in a match with for the vacant Korean super flyweight championship last Saturday. Bae underwent brain surgery, but unfortunately passed away after four days. It was the first ring tragedy in Korea since the death of former WBC light flyweight champion Choi Yo-sam in January 2008.

Without fighters like Bae, the honest journeyman, our sport would not exist.

With all boxing tragedies, I hope the authorities review all safety procedures and set out recommendations to limit the chances of this happening again. It is the least the fighter and his family deserve from the sport.
