That is the first time I have ever seen a pic of Flash. Thanks, dude. I was reading a bit of the book there. Loved the part where Wallau and Flash sat down in Wallau's apartment with every index card, Ring Record Book, write-up and magazine sprawled on the floor putting together every fighters record. Good solid research - pre-internet - to uncover the scam.

Wallau took advantage of Flash and Flash was never the same after that. I was in Flash's apartment, and he had stuff everywhere, under the bed in the closet, I wonder what became of that stuff when he passed. Wallau got a big promotion and Flash got nothing not even the credit. It was Flash who started questioning King's tournament, this was before Boxrec, the Ring Record was about it and that was bad. We kept our own records, I was called by Wallau about a Texas guy who was supposed to be in the tournament.

In regards to the ABC/Ring Magazine scandal, there were a number of fighters who didn't belong in the tournament despite getting invitations. On the other hand, a number of good fighters rportedly didn't get invitations, notably Marvin Hagler.

There was another tournament taking place at the same time Despite having far inferior television production values compared to ABC, the other tournament had a number of good fights, especially when Vito Antuofermo fought Eugene Hart in an absolute thriller. Unfortunately. the other tournament was aborted about the same time as the ABC/Ring Magazine one.

It appears that Johnny Ort, who worked at Ring Magazine, was fudging Ring Record Book records of certain fighters who were participating in the ABC/Ring Magazine tournament, going so far to not including certain results at all or in an inaccurate manner on the fighters' records. Lew Eskin, a veteran editor of a boxing publication at the time, noticed the result of at least one result of one bout in question appeared in an earlier edition of Ring Magazine, but it was either omitted or altered in the Ring Record Book.

At least one of the fighters received an invitation to the ABC/Ring Magazine tournament despite being inactive for quite awhile. One fighter reportedly gave a boxing man a kickback of $2,500. out of a $ 7,500. purse.

Sport Magazine covered the ABC/Ring Magazine tournament scandal very well. It was the first time that I read a detailed article of the scandal. I also learned about Flash Gordon for the first time while reading the article and was determined to subscribe to Flash's Tonight's Boxing Program afterwards.

I have seen a number of photos of Flash. Of course, Flash usually refused to pose for photos.

Chuck, I remember the tournament you are referring to. It was called the World Television Championships. It was run by Don Elbaum and the fighters and the bouts were far superior to the ABC tournament, but like you said, very poor production value and the tournament just imploded due to monies I believe. But I remember watching Yaqui Lopez, Marvin Johnson, Lonnie Bennet, Vito and Cyclone and Tony Chiaverini. The matches were outstanding and I was glued to the outcome, but as I said, the tourney just imploded.
