You are a very astute man, and I am sure he knows where he is now!

He was almost 70. True he could have perhaps made it 20ish more years, but he was an older man

Excuse me...."almost 70" can be considered young or at least not old to some people. Depends on his physical and mental conditions.

    RIP Body Snatcher.

Great fighter with silky smooth skills a great technician with some of the best body punching of all time and one of the rare fighters to have never been stopped in his whole career.

Sad loss RIP to the legend Mike McCallum.

Personal highlights from his career for me....

Toney/McCallum 1 = Possibly my favourite technical fight of all time.

Curry/McCallum = One of my favourite left hook KO's of all time.

Watson/McCallum = One of my favourite systematic beat downs.

Harding/McCallum = One of my favourite performances from a fighter past his prime.

    Jamaica's first world champion.

When I watched his fight with Sean Mannion (remember, in Puerto Rico we watched all the fights free of charge) I rooted for him because I love to see history in the making. (part of the reason i also rooted for Hilary Clinton and Kamala Harris and i rooted when the Berlin Wall was torn down and I rooted when the Mexicans elected a female president and when the Bolivians elected Evo Morales as their first Indian-blooded president and am now rooting for Edmonton to become the first Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup in 33 years)

But he proved not only a world champion but a GREAT world champion. His wars with Julian Jackson, Milton McCrory, James Toney and Donald Curry will never be forgotten. Im sure he could beat Hearns and give Hagler all the Marvelous one could handle.

RIP champion and Hall of Famer!

Maybe it's because I'm closer to AJ's age that late 60s seems old to me. I remember when I was 9 or so and my godmother younger brother was turning 20 and I thought that was OLD. Being 20 seemed so far off

That's terrible news. I'm sorry for his family and of course for him. He was (and still is) one of my big three favorites, with Canto and Frazier.

The most impressive aspect of his career, to me, is how long his peak was. It pretty much began with his demolition of Kalule in 1982 and ended over nine years later with his first fight against Toney. He was more dominant at the start, but by the '90s he was probably more well-rounded. That's what happens when a smart guy is always trying to learn and adapt.
