In 2009, when Haye almost fought his Ukrainian rival before the bout fell through, Cooper's fellow south Londoner turned up to a press conference wearing a T-shirt depicting the severed heads of Klitschko and elder brother Vitali. Cooper, rather more grounded than Haye, labelled the stunt "cobblers".
"He doesn't need to do this sort of publicity to put bums on seats," added Cooper. "Rather, I think he's driving bums off seats with his behaviour."

 

"Three-time world heavyweight champion Ali said: 'I am at a loss for words over the death of my friend, Henry Cooper. I was not aware he was ill.
'I visited with him two summers ago during a brief visit to Windsor as part of the Equestrian Games being held there. He was in good humour and looked quite fit."

WTF - this sounds nothing like anything Ali would say. It sounds like a British press release. I hate the fact that Ali is incapacitated and can't speak for himself, because it makes everybody feel like they have free license to speak for him. Obviously he would have only had kind words for Cooper, but it's still irksome to read things attributed to him that he clearly had nothing to do with.

RIP Sir Henry Cooper

 

A lovely man who I briefly met a couple of times.

Heard a lovely tribute from Angelo Dundee on the radio this morning

 

Dundee is the criminal that robbed Cooper of his KO win over Cassius Clay by cheating, by fixing Clay's glove. He's admitted it. It's a crime that the record books weren't corrected to show him beating Clay by knockout in their first fight, which he did do, while he was still around to appreciate it, and they still haven't been corrected.
