[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Former WBC light featherweight champion Yo-Sam Choi, who has been in a coma since winning a bout on December 25th in Seoul, South Korea, has tragically been reported as likely brain dead by AFP. The official pronouncement is expected later today.

    Another fallen warrior. R.I.P:-(

The surgery they carried out on him a week ago was succesful but he had a 20% chance of waking from the coma and not having permanent brain damage.

i have not seen the fight but reading betweeen the lines there is a chance
Yo-Sam Choi was getting battered in this fight by the indonesian and was protected by the ref or corner from losing.

as it was he won the fight on points , but later collapsed and died of a brain hemmorage ? in hospital.

It never gets any easier to hear this.

This probably sucks anyway, but I wrote this for him, his family, and his fans.

Oh champion, our champion, of audacity and skill
Did you hear our voices cheering, wishing you so well?
Maybe underneath those lights, you cannot really tell
That now we hold our breath and pray as you lay so very still

Oh champion, brave champion, can’t you hear our voices roar
And don’t you know that its you that we adore?
Though your body may lie broken on the arena floor
To heaven on the wings of angles your spirit soars

Oh champion, our champion, can’t you beat the count?
Oh can’t you keep swinging through this final round?
You don’t deserve to leave this way, after fighting your heat out
Is there no way to for you to win this your final bout?

Oh champion, poor champion, in heaven there’s a ring
Where you’ll see us all again someday, and again you’ll be the king
You left us a winner- to you the greatest thing
Death before dishonor was the creed you chose to bring
