For example, Muhammad Ali knocking out George Foreman would have been a seminal moment in the career of the Greatest. As would his victory over Sonny Liston.

I really think the thread starter is asking for definitive moments in the careers of fighters here. What was Alexis Arguello's defining moment?

I don't remember all great fighters for one particular moment, but there are some that have defining moments...absolutely. I touched upon the career of Muhammad Ali but I'd also throw out Diego Corrales. He'll be remembered for getting off the canvas in the 10th round and stopping Jose Louis Castillo. I'd argue that Alexis Arguello didn't have a defining moment, he just built his reputation and legacy over a long and very impressive career. It depends on the individual. Carbajal will be remembered mostly for his 7th round performance against Humberto Gonzalez. Guys like Roberto Duran, the truely great fighters, have many moments. Beating Ray Leonard, beating Iran Barkley, destroying Davey Moore. So many to choose from.

Arguello knocking out Ray Mancini then rushing over to console him sticks out in my mind, just summed up Arguello brillaintly as he was the destructive warrior the transformed into the charismatic role model that he was. Also a signature win for him.

    Good shout actually. :good

My boy Marco will be remembered for his trilogy with Erik Morales, but perhaps even more for his schooling of undefeated British puncher showmen Prince Naseem Hamed.

Yep, for me Barrera's crowning moment was when he put on an exhibition of skill and venom against Naseem, who had clearly faded but was still undefeated and EXTREMELY dangerous. Remaining that composed throughout the 12 was a great display from Barrera, who was always thought aof as a fighter who liked a tear-up. For me, this was when he really showed just how good a boxer he was, for me his best ever all-round performance :good

Louis demolishing Schmeling in the rematch.

Think Ali's most remember movement is pehahps going down for a 1 count in round 15 vs Fraizer.

That fight will be both Joe's and Ali's top movement. Perhaps the Thriller is other. But Ali is most recalled for his bouts with Frazier, than beating Foreman. Though both rank pretty high.

Marciano will always be rember for round 13 vs Walcott(And Walcott will be rember for being ko by the Rock, than dropping Louis)

Louis will be rember for beating Schmeling for the most.

It pains me to say it, but Barney Ross will be rember for loseing to Armstrong.

John L Sullivan shocking imo is most rember for the Corbett fight.

    Jeff for Johnson. Sadly.

Robinson will be rember for his final fight with Lamotta.

If one movement is that of couse.

Nelson will be rember for fouling out against Joe Gans.

If only as a display of good sportmanship and uncommon human decency in such an unforgiving game, I'll always remember Augustus refusing to hit Oliveira to the head when the latter was clearly hurt. I liked Augustus anyway for obvious reasons, but had immense respect for him after that fight.
